    Default VZ Belt Squeal

Iv replaced all the idler pullys on my vz ss 6.0l (2 aircon and 2 alt) and still getting a squeal from the aircon belt but as soon as i put dry lube on the underside of the belt it stops. Its not as bad as before so one of the old pullys must have worn out. Has anyone got any ideas on how to stop belt squeal eg scuff the belt with sand paper or something like that.

Try flipping it, if that stops the noise you need a new belt.

it may be the water pump, my belt squeels when revving high and changing gears, ive been told its because the water pump cannot keep up with the engine rpm, so it slips a bit.

does it squeel under normal driving or hard driving?

i also have this problem happening, i dont know where to start wether is from the belt its self, ideler pulley, water pump, power steering, aircon.
it does it only when car is cold while ideling and also in drive until about 10ks of driving the squeel disappears completly when the car is warm.
any help on how to figure out which is causing the sqeek?
    thanks

I had this happen to my 5.7l statesman and it turned out to be an alignment problem with the power steering pulley , from memory they had to push it a couple of mm further onto the shaft and that fixed it

With mine the aircon has its own sepret belt with a idler pully and tension pully and it is that belt that squeals but stops squealing as soon as i put dry lube on the underneath of the belt.

Harris, that's the same as me but I have one belt only. Alloyec v6.
When I put dry lube the squeal goes but returns by the next day or next cold start
How long does your squeal go for after u put the dry lube on?
Also does ur squeal go afteR about 10 mins of driving or when car warms up?
I still can't figure out weather it's the belt, the ideler tensioner pulley (in the middleor) or the ideler pulley (closet to the right looking at the engine).
Any one fixed there same problem yet?

the best way to fix it is to spray tire shine on it while the car is running, i had the same problem on my vz ss and hasnt squeeked since. i use it all the time on other cars also

All above will work. If its a new belt, there is a chance its just the belt, and once the belt is "Worn In", you wont have the squeeking anymore. Happened to me when I changed my belt, was squeaking for a bit, but eventually went a way, two weeks later, wasn't even making a peep when cold.
Dry lube is fantastic stuff. But if you don't have any on hand, while the engine is running, grab a candle or a stick of board wax, and hold it against the bottom and the top of the belt untill the belt is covered in wax (Obviously not too heavy). It was the ONLY thing that would stop my belts squeeling in my 1980 CM Valiant

    Hey guys
Bought the belt, tensioner pulley and the ideler pulley yesterday.
Will be doing it very soon and will let u know if the chichichichichichichichi or cicicicicicicici sound goes away.
Has any one reading this changed theses 3 parts at home?
If so, anything important that I Shuld know?
    Steps: already aware of,
    -Draw diagram of belt,
-loosen tensioner pulley to get belt off,
    -replace everything

    Will get back to yous.

I just Changed my Belt, tensioner pulley and ideler pully all yesterday.
There was a horrible squeek like cicicicicicicicicicciciciciciciii lol in the morning when i started the car on cold starts which i really hated. so anyway did my deep reasearch for about a month now and it narrowed down to those 3 things so i thought id do them all at once for peace of mind.
I was going to do them myself and had a crack at it but relized that i cant undo the tensioner pulley bolt because one of the two bolts is rite behind the power steering pulley. and i dont have the tool to get the PS pulley off.
so had all three done plus a new fuel filter (also discovering that the old fuel filter was the wrong way around) put in for $50.
started the beast this mornng (as i had to wait for a cold start) and walla its perfect.
i hate my car making any sort of noise. lol
    prices were as such.
    WL V6 Belt: $30.60
    Ideler pulley: $29.15
    Tensioner Pulley: $51
    Fuel Filter: $12
    Labour: $50
    TOTAL: $172.75

    Cheers

Hmm Rather Strange, mentioning above that wen dry lube is applied on the belt the squeek goes. I am assuming that you have changed that belt according to the above Quote???
After Changing the belt, has the squeek changed in terms of sound at all?

It may be the power steering pully not alligned exactly with the tensioner pully.

Let Us know what u have changed so far maybe add a photo or two of your belt(s) setup , as im not sure how you have two seperate belts. My alloytec has a single long belt.
Keep us updated and ill try n help ya out.

    Cheers

I was messing around with the car tonight taking pullys off and greasing them and tryin everything but nothing changed the squeek. so i thort f**k it ill just try a new belt and it stoped queeking so after changing all the pullys it was just a faulty belt but owell. i will start it up in the morning when it is cold and hopefully the squeek is not back and if it is ill try a different brand of belt.

Thanks for the help everyone lets just hope it doesnt come back.

I have a major squeal noise coming from the front of my engine, i 'assume' its a belt or a pulley, it softens to the point i can barely hear it once the car has been warmed up and driving, but i slow down and take off, its back.

I've also noticed, when starting the car, and if i'm reversing or hard steering its even louder and sounds almost likes its grinding.

It sounds horrible when pulling into a car park or what not, reminds me of my old crappy 89' Ford Laser.

I'm going to get the belt changed when i get a service done, as i don't know the service history of the car anyway.

When you remove the belt check the pulleys, tensioner and idler. More than likely one has failed.
