Gents,
Have got SV6 and have had some front end vibration, it mainly happens at high speed 80kmh +. i have 19inch rims and have recently changed the rotors and this problem is still occuring. i did have a bit of a gutter mis-hap a while ago but nothing then really sseemed to change. is there possible something with the front suspension or steering rack?
any ideas on what to look for will be greatly appreciated.
thanks guys,

shake in the steering wheel?
is the rim that hit the gutter on the front?
why did you have rotors replaced? did it have brake shudder?
DB_notso
yes shake in steering wheel, the rims that i had on when i hit the gutter i have taken off and put new ones on. i changed the rotors more so for improved braking, there is no really brake shudder when under brakes with new rotors on, only mainly at cruising.
thanks for the extra Q's
so its a constant shudder through the steering wheel while driving along (and at certain speeds its worse/only at those speeds)
*by steering wheel shudder i meaan the whole car doesnt shake through your seat*
likely either;
wheel balance - swap backs to front and road test if it changes then get wheels balanced
or wheel bearing if only since the accident iwould imagine its the wheel bearing on the wheel that hit gutter
a wheel bearing often will be noisy aswell though
but before doing all of this especially if its happened since you swapped wheels jack it up loosen the nuts and retighten in the correct star pattern first (checking wheel is centered AND nuts arent loose to begin with)
Yes only throught the steering wheel, not whole car. I doubt it the wheel balancing as i keep them balanced and rotatored & aligned every 6 months. i reckon its the wheel bearing.
its due for a service and i dont know if holden will do anything, they are hopeless sometimes.
thanks for the options. will give em a go on the weekend.
no worries another way to check the wheel bearing is to jack up each (front) wheel individually and spin the tyre as quick as you can and see if its something silly like loose caliper blah blah you know what i mean![]()
Its not uncommon to throw a wheel weight and throw the wheel out of balance.
Most likely cause is the balance. For a bearing to fail to the point of causing vibration it would be noisy as hell.
Silver Certified.
well, thats true also... would like to know how this turned out?~!
I have this exact same problem too, but its only ever happened since i put 20s on (theyre new), is it possible to get a bodgy wheel balance and/or wheel alignment... Would really like to see how you go with this, keep us posted![]()
Has anyone with front end vibes actually had their wheel bearing run-out checked with a proper dial indicator?
>0.05 mm and the bearing is gone.
As a tyre technician for almost 4 years now and working with some of the most up to date equipment i would be saying that one of your wheels has thrown a weight off or you have purchased cheap tyres and they have runout in them (out of round)... as for 19" and 20" wheels anything around 8" to 8.5" wide will buckle really easily, even on the smallest pot hole!!! Before taking it to a tyre shop and getting them to diagnose it, jack up your front wheels and put one hand at the top and one at the bottem of the rim and push and pull to see if it has any movement in it (wheel bareing)... then do the same thing but on the left and right side of the wheel... check for movement (tie rod ends) (caster rod bushes)!!! Also wheel alighnment is only to make sure the car is steering straight, steering wheel is straight, and tyres are wearing properly!! (ie. Tow, Camber / Caster)... Hope this info helps!!!
