Hi all,
Tried to save some money the other day and replace my coolant in the VZ 05 Calais v8. Stuffed it up a bit, put Nulon Long life green in, and only drained the radiator without doing a full flush. I haven't driven it since as it had the red stuff (which you can't buy in Blackwater).
To do a flush, other than opening the heater, flushing through heater hose, lower radiator hose etc, do I need to disconnnect/remove the thermostat and how is this done? Anything else that I should look out for when doing this? I can't see a bleed valve either but I think it should be right, with the lid at the highest point in the circuit. I have a Gregory's on the way but will take a while to arrive.
Thanks,
Hobbsy4
dump the coolant by removing the bottom radiator hose, remove a heater hose and flush out the heater core. Put it all back together and fill with clean water, take it for a drive, let it cool and drain it again, do this 2 or 3 times until the water coming out is clean and it should be OK. You can try a bottle of radiator flush if you want to as well.
I don't think removing the thermostat is nessecary if you do it this way however if you want to hose it out in one go without runing it then maybe?
Thanks wortus, I had an idea that's the way I'd have to do it, and I dont urgently need the car right now luckily.
I gave it a flush last night and got it up to temperature before it turned green again, so thought I'd better ask.
Shoud be coolant drain plugs on each cylinder bank. Although not entirely sure.
Not sure about the V8 but with a V6 it's easier to dump the coolant a few times than it is to remove the drain plugs/knock sensors.
hi i am a radiator repairer what u need to do is take the themostat out turn the heater on hot flush though the system u really need a flush gun u best off taking it to a radiator shop dont mix coolants u will get a chemical reaction and will start corroding things out
