Has anyone installed HIDs into their stock sv6 (or low end commodore) headlights... And has anyone actually been able to adjust them ? I installed 8000k HIDs in the low beams and 8000k in the foglights, then parked up against a wall and pointed them down as far as it would allow me, but i think its still gonna be a bit blinding
I tested the brightness against my gfs car (her car is pretty low) and she was blinded, turned the low beams off and left the foggies on and she was still blinded ? Any ideas guys ??
Y bother with them?
Gonna cost u an arm and a leg to get it done prop.
my 2c
Well i originally had those philips xenon 6000k in both low beams and fog lights, they have such poor visibility that driving around with the lights off would give the same result, so i needed to upgrade...
8k o.O Your just asking to be defected. I would suggest going back to regular globes.

Or go back to 55w (or is it 35w?) and 4300k?
Go to a wreckers and buy a set of vz ss headlights... They have the proper projector style headlights for hid's.... It is illegal to put hid's in cars without these style of headlights

@wraith. If you look at the specific ADR for lighting it says you can retrofit them but they have to be auto leveling
They will never be ideal.
Once you have adjusted them lower you will find the high beams will now point lower. You cannot adjust them independantly.
You also have to put up with moronic comments from people with no hair and spectacles.
So you lot are basically saying even if i get projectors it still wont be the best ?? What about moving down to 6000k, will that lower my chance of being defected, or with the glare its all the same ?? Drove this morning and EVERYTHING was blue![]()
8000k is too blue. Low beams are better at 4300 or 5000k.
Projectors Hid's are definetly better than reflectors for low beams.
I hope the low beams you installed have the metal shrouds attached?

What about tinting the front lights to lower the brightness of the HID light, would make it similar to normal light - but its look mad cuz its tinted !!! Or does the ADR (fun police) have a problem with that too ??
BTW four days driving and not a flash from anyone, mustve done it right![]()
Yep, tinting is illegal.
I use HID for 8 years on 10 different cars... 8000k too... never get defected because of the HID seriously....
u see HID on road everyday which is not originally from factory... and most cop are not clever enough to spot which one is factory which one is not unless u put your ballast right on top of the headlight LOL
SAME HERE,
Iv got the 5000k 55W globes in my caprice atm, they are nice and white but cant see anything at night. lol
So i was having a look at other globes and found the same ones but with 100W and 5000k.
Does anyone know if that will be brighter or the same, i know the the k is the color of the light but my question is what will increasing the Wattage of the globe change???
Will it melt my wires as its pulling more current?
Any one experienced this upgrade?
Cheers
Dave

I hope you're talking about high beam with 100W globes - that's extremely bright and will make it terrible for anyone driving towards you.
Seriously guys, have some consideration for others.
Yes 100 Watts can cause dramas.

I can't speak for everybody. But from my observations people usually dip their lights when there is oncoming traffic. Any wattage bulb can blind people if it's pointed in their face!
100w can cause the polycarbonate to cloud and other problems. Try standard wattage but with a better spec, e.g. Osram Nightbreakers or Philips X-treme Power etc. Or go 35w HID <5000k for high beam only.
HID's are a grey area, alot of kits that you can buy don't meet the Australian Standards. There are some that meet and surpass the standards though, its all about research and money really. You can get away with a decent quality but illegal kit and probably never be pulled over or have problems with it. You could buy a cheap kit that is illegal and will most likely be pulled over for your lights not even working.
I put a HID kit on my Crewman, it has auto-leveling and all that crap. I have only been flashed once, I wont lie, I flashed back I think he got the picture. But since installing them never pulled over. The vision is alot better. If going out bush I would still recommend using proper off-road spot-lights though because the light doesn't travel as far as I would like for driving down the Arnhem and Stuart Highways at night, or any road surrounded by heavy bushland.
I have 35w 6000k in my low beam and fog lights on the ss I have been flashed quite a few times and I have flashed back.. The projectors shoot the light almost like a pencil beam my drivers side is pointed a little in
I've got 55W 6000k HIDs in my VZ Calais's low beam projectors, absolutely amazing! can and will never go back to ordinary bulbs again! the light spread is amazing colour temperature is nice and bright white with a very slight tinge of blue. Never been flashed at so far but i've also dipped the beam.
If anyones interested, these are the ones i bought and i can really recommend. Aussie seller, free postage was very helpful.
