Are you saying the fuel you put in isn't registering on the dash gauge?

Not registering on the dash + backfiring might be a leak somewhere? Does it piss fuel out anywhere under the hood?

have u played with any elctrics in the car eg new headunit?
have you done anything under the bonnet?
    Mods example pod filter.
have u recently changed spark plugs?

Start step by step, Have a look at all your fuses footwell and under the bonnet.

Let us know how u go.

Maybe the sensor on the float in the petrol tank is stuffed?

    Maybe long shot, but unrelated?

Or possibly the harness to the pump is intermittent and is giving low pressure and no reading to the dash. Or even check the wiring from the ECU to the tank and look for away wearing or fraying of the wires.

Sounds like you have an electrical fault in the dash and/or the sender unit in the tank... take the car to an Auto Electrician/Mechanic that can hook it up to a tech2 and check for any faults.

On another point... Punctuation/grammar/sentences... have you ever heard of these things???

Has anyone considered the two may not be related but rather coincidence?
That aside the only thing I can think of that isnt mentioned above is bad fuel, the possibility there is water in the fuel, or sludge could make inaccurate readings on the gauge, and cause back firing.
It is a long shot though.

But my personal advice is go and see a mechanic, Holden would be an ok bet, they can hook the car up to the computer, and if your lucky it may give the exact reason for it having those problems.

On a final note, I am not a grammar Nazi, but reading your posts take alot of effort. Please work on the grammar and spelling.

found the problem too it to holden today results are ecu needs software update (REPROGRAMING) for fuel gauge....center exhaust muffler needs to be changed.. and also the spark plugss bit costly though
