Fella's,
Two of the bulbs/leds on the headlight switch have kicked the bucket. Which leaves me with just the rheostat lumination.
Is it possible to replace the offenders by opening this switch? Seem to remember trying it before with no luck.
Ta.
Some time ago, I did some research & bought some replacement bulbs - with a view to replacing some blown globes in my old headlight switch.
Disassembling the headlight switch is a bit tricky, and the bulbs themselves are retained in a plastic holder mounted on a wire 'standoff' assembly. The individual bulb assemblies are extremely fiddly and in the end, I opted to just replace the entire switch. If you do go down the path of replacing the bulbs, also be aware to ensure you retain all the green colored plastic bulb covers, as they are easily lost(another reason why I just replaced the complete headlight switch assembly).
PM me if you want details of the bulbs, or want to buy some (I still have some left).
Thanks.
Are the bulb assemblies similar to those in the rear power window switches?
Still looking for some tips on opening the assembly. Does the knob detach from the bezel without damage?
I don't have rear power windows, so I can't open a switch to confirm, however I'm pretty sure they use the same bulb.
It's been a while since I pulled my headlight switch apart but from memory, the knob does pull off the switch shaft, however it is very tightly fitted. You still need to remove the switch from the vehicle & disassemble the rear of the switch, to gain access to the switch PCB & bulbs.
If I get a chance, I may be able to find my old disassembled headlight switch, and grab some photos.
When I had it partially disassembed in the past, the knob was the issue. Did not want to force it for fear it might break.
Pics would be appreciated.

I could kiss you! Well... not really.
The bulbs look different to the ones in the PW switch.

Hahaha lol. No worriesFunny enough it was right near my PC anyway, never bothered to put it in the shed >.>
From memory, they are different to the main Power Window module at least. I haven't actually seen the globes in the rear switches myself.

Those pics show things perfectly. The actual bulbs themselves sit in the white plastic holders, with the bulb leads 'wedged' between a channel in the sides of the holder & the wire 'standoff' leads that are soldered to the switch PCB (you can see the white plastic holder slots in the pics). To remove the bulbs, you first need to carefully slide the plastic holder off the wire 'standoff' leads (hopefully without bending them). You will then see the bulb leads coming out of the bottom of the plastic holder and bent upwards along the sides, where they make contact with the flattened ends of the wire 'standoff' leads.
Removing the white plastic holders from the wire 'standoff' leads that are soldered to the switch PCB is quite tricky, as some force is required to slide them off the wire 'standoff' leads - which are themselves easily bent out of shape.
All in all, the job is a very fiddly one, hence why I just replaced my switch.
Attached is a pic of the actual bulb.

The bulb holders are very similar to the window ones. Although the holders are black and may be different dimensions.
Sounds like they are as bad to replace as getting those metal tabs to align properly when you purchase a S/H one. Then completely lose it when you can't get the switch to fit properly......
Does it have fog light capabilties Troy?
