Thought i'd share my latest project with you, im starting to smooth and polish the manifold off my alloytec.. This has taken about 7 hours so far and im probably only getting to finish the smoothing and it is already looking gold.
If your gonna try this yourself, make sure you have lots of spare time and patience. Remember once you start, you cant stop.
Day 1
Smoothed out the front of the manifold to the standard prior to the polishing and high grade sandpaper.
Day 2
Finished smoothing the front and smoothed most of whats left, still needs a bit of work but it got a bit cold tonight. Looking really good

u deffinately have made me want to do this now, and guess what, ur gonna help me haha
Very nicely done impulsive! Looks like your 7 hours of work paid off well so far. The more elbow grease the better haha! Say how did you remove the badge on the manifold?? I want to ditch the Chevy badge on mine.
The only Exec in Saudi that's now properly badged!
no idea, i didnt remove the badge, this is a modified manifold i trialled and now buying.. ill replace the badge eventually however. btw 7 Hours was a guess i spent all day sunday doing it and then all arvo from 4 pm

Stuff that! I would rather go out and buy a black 190 one.
I've heard if you paint it red (and red only) you can gain some RWHP. Polishing will only give you more RWKW.
so far sand paper...
heyitsEnricoPallazzo - i have a black one aswell, your wrong too, if you polish, it help with torques and helps the carbons flow..

Each to their own I suppose. I'll just stick with my Polarizer and crystal pyramid. (I have both power and torques!)
Thats the only reason I have not treated my plenum as yet. I have the crystal glued to the plenum where the Holden badge was.
Lions and circles are bad Juju.
Carbons are bullshit. Just ask Tony Abbott.
I also have a Dream Catcher hanging from the rear view mirror. But thats another story.....
lol, i take it you have read our thread from a while back?

Do you want to PM me what you did to it, I've always wanted to do it to mine. But don't know how.
Its fairly easy yet time consuming.
Get some Sand Paper;
3 x 60grit
3 x 80
3 x 100
2 x 150
2 x 240
1 x 240 wet n dry
then 500, 1000, 1500 wet n dry
im getting my wet n dry tomorrow, im going to use it in conjunction with soapy warm water using each of the grits above, then finish it off with autosol and walah it should look good..

I have been doing some research, and using Meguires Chrome and Aluminium (for rims) polish may help bring it up

the 'pitting' or cast marks are extremely deep and there is no real way to get them out. thats the only issue i have faced.
and i would love pics of what is needed!

Latest Update
Day 3
Got up into the higehr grade sand paper and started to use a bit of brasso in between polished to give it a 'shadow chrome' effect.. kind of worked...

At this point it is critical to ensure that you have smoothed all the surfaces, otherwise it will not be as shiney as other areas.

I love it. Also you can buy chrome paint, not the best stuff in the world but if you paint the air intake it will look a bit better.....and adds 50kw @ rear wheels (everyone knows that).
That looks fantastic - good job.
thanks.. im happy with it
ive got plans for the air intake... lets leave that at that![]()
