I have a Nov 06 built Adventra LX6.
I can't open the windows or sunroof when on the road because of the strong smell of fuel vapour that enters the cabin. It's not an exhaust smell or the smell of wet fuel but more like the smell of tanked vapours like you get at the petrol station.
It becomes noticeable after driving for a while (eg: 20 mins), but its not easy to locate when I stop the car to sniff around. I don't notice any smell under the hood.
I suspect it comes from around the fuel tank or related pipes, vents or hoses under the car.
Has anyone else had this problem or know of it. The dealership can't pin it down. First up they changed the petrol cap but that hasn't fixed it. They did say they had changed a petrol tank on a regular VZ to fix the same sort of problem.
I'm desperate to find the cause as I carry 3 kids in the car and the seals will surely deterioriate over time and start to let the smell in.
Most probably the seal around the fuel cap.
After you tighten the cap on & it clicks a few times, hold the cap around the circumference & turn it just a little tighter.
Lots of people have had that issue and this generally solves it.
Have a look at the hose that runs near the fuel filler to the charcoal canister which is behind the petrol tank .You might have to remove the plastic panel in the wheel arch to check it This hose is prone to splitting and will let fuel vapors into the cabin .
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
Hi BrownBro,
I have the same problem with my Adventura NOV06 SX. Did you find the fault that was causing the petrol vapour smell?
had the same problem with my vz for months, finaly fixed it myself with some trusty old silicon sealant. Try removing the outer hinged locking cap via the two screws, thats where fuel vapour should be entering inside the vehicle. re-install the cap placing silicon around the hinge housing as a seal and around the screw holes before re-inserting the two screws. this should fix the problem.
