Default Swap Alloytec BCM for Gen 3 BCM?

G'day members, our WL Caprice is not always starting, (installed new battery still no help) so l had the RACV guy around, he couldn't find what was wrong until l mentioned the BCM was playing up (mirrors, seat, parking sensors not always working), so he pulled the BCM fuse for 30 seconds, wacked it back in, and she started straight away.

l was wondering can you install/swap a second hand Gen 3 BCM - from another WL Caprice, instead of the Alloytec BCM, l realise the keys have to be reprogrammed and l have to get the VIN for the new BCM from Holden.

l am also running a Sprint LPG injection system in case that comes into the equation.

My other question is can these BCM's be repaired - l read the indicator Capacitor can be changed but what about other Capacitors, etc on the PCB board or would it be better to just change the whole BCM?

l'm not very Tec savvy, so please dumb down any complex answers for me, thanks.

    Cheers

As for replacing the BCM. As long as its the same level and the pin-out's are the same it should work. But not entirely sure on that one.

Purchase a BCM from a wrecker with the key head(s). That will make it cheaper and easier to replace.

Thanks for that, my intentions are to get one from the wreckers, will post the results when l get it all sorted, knowing Murphy's law will kick in somewhere.

Update - got the BCM and Key head from the wrecker, forgot/wasn't supplied with the VIN for the car that it came from, dropped it off at the Holden dealer, when l went to pick up the car they said they couldn't put it in as l didn't supply the VIN, they then charged me $100 for their time, they knew which wrecker l got it from so l don't know why they didn't ring the him for the VIN - which was on his filing system.

So l ended up getting an Auto Electrician (who had a fancy scanner tool, like the Tech 2) to put it in he didn't even need the VIN and charged me $40, l was really pissed off at the Holden dealer, they won't be getting my business again.

You need the your radio code when swapping BCM's.
