hey thought i should point out to people that at my work, someone bought in a vz v6 wagon (it was driven in, then towed away) and what the customer did was put engine cleaner in it, and bam, complete write off of the engine at least. having said that, the customer did not service his car regularly, and decided to leave the engine cleaner in his car longer than what the label says.what happened is that it circulated all the sludge around his engine and blocked everything inside it, and no doubt, prob ate away at his seals. thought id let people know before throwing engine cleaner in your vz v6, or if you do, only leave it in your car for 1 minute max, then drain it all out
Or drain the oil and fill it with warm soapy water and drive around the block a few times
Edit: Dont do that
derrOr drain the oil and fill it with warm soapy water and drive around the block a few times
... it doesnt need to be warm, it'll warm up as you drive ;P LMFAO
Can't say I have ever put motor cleane in.. I find if you get it or at least change the oil regular..
Engine cleaner is the best way to cause problems. Service the car reqularly and you won't need to, but what most people fail to do is change the oil filter, it's there to pick up all the gunk the engine produces, and all engine cleaners will loosen up all the shit in the sump, and throw it around the inside of the engine. If you bought a car that the oil gets dirty within a week of daily driving, best thing to get done is have the oil sump removed, then cleaned, the oil pick up cleaned, and a quick wipe of the crank shaft area, but with most new cars this can be costly as the engine has to be raised to remove.... defineatly worth it if your changing to a lower km' engine.

hahaha some people have no idea
Regular oil changes, as in 7,000 k's and of course new filter each change= clean engine.....
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
7000??? thats a bit extreme... 7500 if your car is getting absolutely worked
Life starts at 200km/h
I bid 8000...........bang, sold.
I filled mine with brake cleaner and gave it a really hard run until i couldnt hear it running anymore, and for some reason, it wont start now.
i tend to put about 300 to 400 ml of dextron 3 in with the old oil. run it for 5 minutes then dump it. trans fluid is an oil and a degreaser
So I guess it is safe to assume that the problems arose because of a dubious service history and not the engine flush.
i tend to pour a cup of sand in mine straight after an oil change after 2 klms of driving... it really cleans everything theres draw back i have to push my car but boy are those internals clean....and at 2klm oil changes it becomes expensive but my cars worth it lol
the good thing about getting older....more toysthe bad news more headaches
i never put anything but clean oil in my engine all those cleaners and additives are crap they do more harm than good.
I have used engine flushing oil before.
But that said I took the sump out first, cleaned it, cleaned everything I could reach. Ran it though (followed instructions) then drained it and put some lovely royal purple in.
Put 1 litre of diesel fuel in and make up the rest with oil. I.E if the motor needs 6 litres of oil, put 5 litres of oil and 1 litre of diesel. Thrash it around for about 10 mins and then drain the oil/fuel and change the filter.
Obviously at this point put fresh oil in...unless of course you like a nice, seized motor...
The oil you use has cleaners and additives and crap already added.
The problem is from long service intervals and then made worse by the flush. The polymers in the oil break down and then it loses is cleansing and lubricating abilities at high temperature, this "cooks" the oil and causes the sludge. Flushing it caused the obvious problems.
I go oil and filter every 5000
Another little trick you can do, and I know people will say never do it. But put diesel oil in it for 5000 km. Make sure the oil wont poison your cat first. The detergents in diesel oil clean the engine pretty good.
wow i didnt check this thread for days and its exploded lol. yea i think it was due to lack of servicing and then the customer ran the cleaner through it, not my car thank god lol. and whats the go with sand in with the oil lol, i think this thread has gotten a bit cheeky haha
Engine flush in properly maintained cars and used correctly wont hurt anything.
Using it in sludged engines or poorly maintained engines on the other hand can result in oil starvation due to the sludge being loosened and blocking up the oil pickup.
Having said that though we've had a few very badly sludged engines come into work and have said we can try the engine flush but no promises and the engine may fail completely. Not wanting to pay for a strip down and rebuild they say ok and in goes around 2-4 bottles of engine flush and idle for an hour or so then drain and refill with fresh oil. So far no seized engines so its luck of the draw really.
Id say the mistake people make is to put the flush in and drive around, always do it at idle speeds only.
Silver Certified.
all true there guys. always use a bottle in my car let it idle for about 20mins the dump the oil, usualy fairly clean before i change it but once the flush has gone through is alwasy alot dirtier. never had a problem on mums VX either did it from 46,000kms upto 268,000 when we sold it, ran like new still.
