mate i wouldnt touch the exhaust not massive gains. Better off spending money on something else like upgrading brakes, hbd pedal set, tints etc.. or get a v8.

you could get extractors if you really wanted...but upgrading the cats isnt really necessary on the 6,
    the stock cat works fine..

    Default Re carts and extractors

Hey mate. I put a cai kit, 2.5in exhaust and a set of pacemakers on my v6 and few weeks later the factory cats were destroyed. They started to make a real bad ticking/rattling type sound. I replaced them with a set of hi flows and am now looking into getting it tuned.

With twin 2.5"(WAY TOO BIG), It's worth getting pacies, you may just get some torque back. You dont have the get hi-flows, but it will make a deeper and louder noise.

And a CAI makes intake noise, not much else. Im not biased, i have one. And Fishman is right, you wont feel a big difference in upgrading an N/A v6.

Get rid of the twin 2 1/2" and go slightly smaller and you will get back what you lost with the 2 1/2". It will feel like a different car. Adding extractors and cats will give a bit more of a performance gain. It's all perception though, what somebody else thinks is pointless may be worth doing to you.

Having said that, I do a twin 2 1/4" into single 3" that works very well on the VZ.

Although it does actually sound pretty nice with a set of pacemakers and hiflo ballistic cats which is wat i have right now on my calais (190 alloytec) sound pretty crisp with the standard catback.

Anyone tried the pacemaker system? I've been looking around for a good exhaust and I like the look of the pacemaker dual 2 1/4" stuff without the rear muffler. Although a few shops have told me that they are too loud (& bloody expensive) and will not fit them because the fun police will come knocking if they do. Which just makes me want to find one for a listen.

P.S. Have been quoted $1750 all the way upto $2900 for a full system. Extractors, Cat's & cat-back. Most telling me that 2.5" from the cats is fine.
    I aim to misbehave.

Unfortunately this system is not a direct fit to the ute, it will need to be lengthened about 120mm before the mufflers. It is $495 delivered.

The pipe size is 2 1/4". Here is one I did a while ago, this one has extractors, high flow cats and the system. Excuse the "special" guys that recorded it...Without the extractors and cats it sounds more mellow and a bit deeper.

By special do you mean that It'd sound better if they weren't "special"? Because it sounds a little hollow in the middle of the rev range, then again it could be who ever is operating the throttle too.

It is a bit raspy because the standard exhaust has two small resonators behind the cats. These get removed when extractors and aftermarket cats are fitted, because that is where the new cats sit.

Without extractors and cats it is deeper and doesn't have that raspy quality. It also sounds different under load, deeper again and more throaty. It also doesn't sound raspy under load either the way it does when free revving.

The guys are "special" because they are talking to each other when they recorded it, just sounds funny that's all.

ohk yeah i think i get what you mean, on my ute i got bored and removed the rear muffler and left the exhaust finishing behind the rear axle, free revving (i assume thats sitting it in neutral and just revving it?) does sound raspy on the way back down, however whilst driving it i can hear a nice note inside the cab between 1500 and around 3000rpm and then again at 4500 to 6500rpm, but its not a loud over the top note. im after a nice deep throaty exhaust tune that sounds great and is heard (but not ear peircing) when i put my foot down, but doesnt have an annoying droan, and something i can hear whilst i have the window doen driving too, oh and will still past rego and whatnot haha thanks for all your help to bud

loud and deep sounds like a twin 2.5 lol. from what ive heard, and i have 2 other mates with sv6's, is simply the standard catback with pacemaker headers and aftermarket cats, seriously sounds more sporty than any other exhaust out there. power seems to feel alot better as well for some reason, still scratching my head about that one lol. having said that, its quiet, but when u floor it, the induction is great, way better than an exhaust note, and sounds a lot beefier, as any exhaust on a v6, the sound never sounds 'full", they have hotspots etc. and just sound to airy or thin.

anyone get what i mean??? lol

if anyone is interested, i have a redback twin 2.5 going for cheap, but will only sell along with their standard exhaust... pm me if interested

    I get what you mean..

I am one of 'those blokes' that has gone back to a standard cat back. Car feels great, sounds great and is quiet enough to hear the stereo on 1db, my daughter can sleep peacefully and i have lost absolutely no power, in fact if anything gained.. Ive always thought that unless massive changes are made to a cars intake and peformance then what could a catback possibly do..

In fact, i left the 2.5" cat pipes, standard cats and pacemakers on. Bolted up the standard exhaust and my whole perception about the alloytec changed. Its not a slug, loves to rev, and can lay back and chill on the highway. 6 Speed gearbox all the way.. massive feel in difference both driving and as a passengervbetween rich and my car, just with an exhaust change...

If i recommend anything.. cat pipes, extractors, and standard exhaust on a standard car
