Can this also cause problems where the car wont go into gear properly? or where it goes into the wrong gear eg. Park seems to roll forwards like in Drive, and other times it works fine?

the problems i think are valve body issues / selector adjustment. the torque converter would not cause any of these.

check your selector adjustment, make sure when in park the car does not roll (hand brake off) if it does roll then the parking pawl is not engaged.

You should be able to tell if it's a selector issue by looking at the legend on the selector and dash cluster. They should be identical.
