Find the correct wire under the driver's scuff plate by using a test light. I think it's orange with a white? stripe. Failing that, remove your B pillar cover and find it there. Tap the footwell lights to your interior light wire under the scuff plate.

Not sure now, but I think it's negative switched.

    Lightbulb

Connect the negative wire to BCM connector X4 terminal 22 which is white with a green tracer.
Connect the positive wires to the illumination relay feed which is 10 amps. The colour is orange with a brown tracer. This wire is found throughout the interior lighting curcuit. Test to be sure.

What sort of lighting are you going to install? Need the wattage.

i was going to run a 30 cm LED strip for each footwell in the front and then possibly to more under each front seat.
they run off a 12v current, i spoke to my electrical teacher who has done some work with cars and he said that my biggest problems will be finding the correct wires other than that i shouldnt have any problems.

I have two 30 cm neons in the front, wired via a switch to the parker/dash curcuit.

As for the ones that come on with the door open, they are two LED 'steplights'. These are the ones I have wired under scuff plate, just means they only come on with a door open, but not when the interior light is switched on manually.
I have leds and stuff everywhere in all the console compartments and boot, under rear of front seats, never had a problem with too much current draw. I do put a fuse in nearly every light, etc, just in case!

Should be orange/black. Or any battery feed if you like.

Meaning orange with a black tracer (single wire). Which is positive.

So long as the neg is connected to BCM terminal above, the footwell lighting will act with the interior lights.

assuming the BCM is the white block where all the wires meet? do i need to connect the positive before or after the BCM? because when i check the orange with black trace the light in my tester stays on even when the interior lights turn off?

sorry man really new to all this

ok so tryed it before the BCM an the test light stays on no matter what happens with the interior lights?

im starting to wander if it is actually orange with a black trace?

The positive (OB) is connected to the illumination relay. The BCM will turn this relay off after 1 hour (conditions) to prevent battery drain. This also happens with the ACC relay. This is why it is on when you test. The BCM switches the neg (WG) during normal operation.

You may ask why does the BCM needs to control both positive and negative wires? This is because if the interior lighting is switched on manually this bypasses the neg wire on the BCM. The only way the BCM can then switch off the interior lights if they were inadvertantly left on is to switch off the illumination relay (positive).

If you connect to the wires I have suggested, the new lights should behave exactly like the rest of the interior lights.

Leave a window down. Close the doors. Come back about a hour later. Try to switch on the interior light manually through the open window. They will not work- illumination relay off. No power to your meter, should you whish to crawl inside like Spiderman and connect it.

well i must have done something wrong ahahaha.... i hooked the positive up to the orange with black trace then put the negative in with the top of the bcm lights come on all good but dont turn off...

from what i gathered early they would turn off soon as there would be no power but what i am trying to do is to get the footwell light functioning on the exact same circuit as the interior lights.... open the doors the foot well lights come on, shut the doors and start the engine the footwell lights go off if you follow

The only thing I can think of is if you have a higher level BCM. Which is wired differently.

sorry to re post in this thread after soo long. tryed it again today and figured out what my problem was. i was wiring it just how you told me, the only problem was what i wanted and how you were telling me to wired them were to different things. i read a few threads and saw that you had wired yours for the under the doors when they open. i want my to act as a slave to the interior lights so the interior light switch will overide the doors if i want it to. any suggestions?
    cheers
