Howdy all
anyone actually have/used one of these on their VZ?
WE have an SRS light on the Adventra. I got told by the guy we brought it from it would clear SRS lights from the VZ.
Problem is ... it wont read anything to do with SRS! It can find ABS faults logged and other faults logged, but no SRS.
I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has used one before and had any similar experiences?
You haven't changed your instrument cluster recently by any chance? Or what if anything did you do to generate the code?
I have an MS509- no probs. The US prefix means US specific. Which could be your problem.

nah the Adventra is stock as a rock. Tried it in the Equipe, equally as stock as a rock, and same same! It cant access the SRS system.
The bloke now reckons the US703 is a diagnostic tool only and wont clear the SRS fault ... I'll pop up the email shortly ... then again he also claims once the 'airbag faulty is healed the airbag faulty light disappears'.
Does the MS509 access and clear the SRS?
He has them in stock too and is happy to return the 703. Im wondering if its worth swapping. Problem is if I swap then we're stuck with the 509, I can either send the 703 back for full refund or swap it but I'm stuck with the decision!
The code popped up 12 months ago and Greg (Phreddy) cleared it with Tech 2. After it continually set itself off over the next few days, Greg cleaned and checked the contacts along the line and it didnt come back. But now, 12 months later and its ready for the rego inspection again, dad went over a pothole again and bam - SRS failure. He doesnt want to take it to Holden, and last time he gave it to the mechanic he had NFI and couldnt even reset it (hopeless much?)
Not sure if mine resets SRS now. Does not mention on the website. Just assumed it would. I'm not going to generate a code to out.
No doubt you were sold that particular model because it specifically mentions SRS diagnosis and reset.
Looks like refund and and gouging by Holden.
lol fair enough!
Once again Im reading the MS509 resets SRS, but Ive been told that once already!
Thanks for the info tho.
When you select 'erase all codes'. Does it not reset the SRS fault?
nope because it doesnt recognise the SRS module
Have you had the seats out to clean it or anything? Just pop your head under the seats to make sure the pretensioners are still plugged in.. Just take it to an auto elec, and use there scan tool, i only charge $30 to scan/erase codes
lol nah its as stock as a rock. Apart from chucking an SV6 leather wheel on it back in 2005 (without issue) and some SS pedals nothing else has been touched.
Its something with the drivers air bag, just weird though that cleaning contacts worked for close to 12 months then it come back, but obviously somethings there.
We're gonna have to try and hitup someone shortly I think, I'll try Greg from ASR again and continue the trouble shooting, to use his tech 2. Its just frustrating
Oh and to answer my question (in case anyone ever searches for this in future), Autel do an Airbag and Oil Reset tool (Autel OLR) which specifically mentions Holden, and apart from resetting SRS can also adjust service intervals. Dont know what else its useful for tho. The bloke we bought the US703 off had these airbag ones listed on ebay as recent as 27 June, so Ive asked if he has any more and waiting his reply ...
Enrico, with yours, does it work with the auto OBD2 scan? With ours, we do the auto scan from the menu and it comes up with no errors for either module it finds, but when we go in manually under 2005 Pontiac using Z as the VIN identifier it listed the other known issues (stored codes) we had with the front wheel speed sensor and brake light issue. For something that sounded so simple its quite a muck around to get the info we need. Also, are you able to update yours???
We're just weighing up do we send this back for refund or do we keep it for its DTC reading/clearing ability or do we consider buying a cheaper model (MS509) that sounds like it does the same
If I go to stored or pending codes it says none. Mine also does not have specific manufacturer listing, eg. pontiac etc.
Regarding update. When I bought it 3 years ago I was able to update. But since then the links on their website are bunk and also the update software does not like 64 bit architecture. I have also tried emailing them (last year) but never got a response.
Hey Enrico, sorry but stupid question time
is yours easy to use? We bought the 703 to use with 3x VZs in our driveway and nothing more, so as much as its got fancy manual choices for ford and chevy and pontiac and saab and hummer and Ive found the update files for VW and Toyota and Volvo and Opel, we just want the damn thing to plug in, talk to the VZ and go "yep you have a D01556 stored" so we can gasp and go "ohhhhh" then clear it
Problem is it looks like we need to manually go in under a 2005 Pontiac Z series (as mentioned) and to get it to read transmission we need to go in as something else and choose a 1.4litre something or other, but we're just guessing that works on the basis that it reads and says no errors opposed to saying no link, the info we're putting in doesnt gel with the car!
We still have the option to send it back for full refund, then purchase a MS509 at about $100 less, if its a bit more basic and simpler to use, but before we do dad would like to know your experience with the MS509, and basically are you able to just plug it in and get the damn codes without all this fuss we're experiencing?
Also, took the car to an old work mates place last night, he used to be our head tech/technical advisor before moving into training. He reset it using his expensive toy which was good and it had a historical fault about drivers air bag resistance too high once again (same as last year)
He then suggested its the clock spring. As he rightfully pointed out, in our time together we never replaced ONE drivers air bag for a fault unless it was because the badge had come off (even then thats just a visual thing, not a fault and only because the badge was sold with the air bag assy, not seperate) but we had easily done 400 clock springs, at one stage they were a recall, because they were setting off SRS faults, and all it takes is for the clock spring to lose connection for a split section for whatever reason, and it throws a permanant fault
So off to Holden we go to buy a new clock spring. Im gonna ring then later today (the NSW distribution centre is 2 mins from work so Im sure they'll have it).
We're also considering buying the Autel Oil and Airbag reset tool next week, and now I know a mate can borrow a proper tool from work to get us out of trouble we'll set an SRS fault and see if the Autel in fact resets it. Sounds stupid when my mate has a proper tool at his disposal, but like anything, thats only while he's in that role![]()
Mine goes somehting like this:
Plug in, ignition on, protocall search, canbus found, two modules present, select module, data displayed- provided it is supported.
Regarding codes. I have only ever had to reset a SVS fault. But as mentioned I just assumed if there was a fault with SRS, PCM etc. it would display.
As I mentioned previously. There is no manufacturer specific menu's. There is however a lot of live data from the ECU.
ah ok cool, thanks for that I do appreciate it!
Ive dedicated Sunday to creating faults on my car to test it out, see how it goes.
Hi,
I too bought a MaxiDiag US703 thinking it would reset SRS fault but it would not access the SRS module at all no matter what I did with it ,so I sent it back.
It did display some live data and ABS stuff but not SRS.
If anyone has a scan tool or software (that doesn't cost an arm and a leg) that can access SRS module on a VZ could they please post here?
Thanks heaps!
I know the maxiscan reseller has one for sale that ONLY does the SRS faults. I am looking at buying one to go with my Geniscan GS400 (I got that model because it was cheap and it gives you the fault code and the text description so less work)
Thanks for the quick reply azazeldeath!
I am not sure which maxiscan model will do srs on a VZ? Are you able to post a link?
If you are thinking about this one;
Autel
I am not sure if it would access the SRS module either.
I will post a question to the seller on ebay;
GENUINE AUTEL AA101 TROUBLESHOOT ABS AND AIRBAG | eBay
and post the reply back here.
Cheeers
He is the person I bought mine off, he answers questions truthfully. I will find the scanner that I intend to buy again. When I do I will post it on here.
Ive been doing ALOT of researching and running around for the SRS reset tools with not much luck.
The closest I got was a dealer at QLD who has asked Autel with no luck. He doesnt keep them in stock but was happy to run the risk of selling me one and if it didnt work giving me my money back.
Autoscan, erm not too sure. He "answers" correctly ... not always. We asked specifically about if the 703 resets SRS and got told yes as we didn't need it to do anything BUT reset the SRS warning. then when we found it didn't he replied with what I posted above, about airbag faulty healed and once airbag faulty healed error goes away. If error no leave then off to dealer to fix ... which is a load of crap as 1) as soon as ANY SRS fault is logged it stays on until a scan tool resets it, whether its a current fault or like ours, a historical "once off" fault and 2) once our "airbag faulty" aka clockspring was replaced, the SRS light stayed on until reset due to reason 1) !!!
That said, he did offer a money back refund.
My research seems to indicate the AA101 will do the trick. Mr Wu from Autoscan never replied to my emails enquiring about them, in the mean time I found a friend of a friend with a genuine Tech 2 so he reset it for us and dad lost interest in buying a scanner to reset it in future.
If someone here is keen on trying one please let us know!!!
Hi guys, Its my first post here. I was looking to buy a MaxiDiag US703 GM/Holden Ford OBD2 Scanner Code Reader off eBay
Item number: 190396645333 and contacted the seller to find out some details. I have a VT II clubsport and he assures me that it will read and clear SRS and ABS fault codes. I was wondering if maybe since this thread had started that maybe an update to the software had taken place or that the VT II was different to the VZ. Also I have done a check on the Autel web site and there does not appear to be any software upgrade available for this model Has any one used this scanner on a VT II with LS1 and if so, how did ti go.
Cheers. Paul.
no, theres no software support or updates at all!
Ive since sold the VZ and up (down?) graded to a WK Statesman (same as VY) with LS1 and yes, it reads the LS1.
In my research it was the LS1 and newer that had OBDII connection and Alloytec.
We tried a VY V6 for sh!ts and giggles and no, it doesnt work (but their a different system)
So yes, it will work on your LS1 although it takes a bit of playing to find the car, something like a 2003 Chev something or other. You need to be open minded when playing with this tool and think, what else is this Engine fitted too in Chevys line up ... or when you want to scan the transmission its the same story. I cant remember exactly what car I used on the stato.
Thank's mate, I will buy one and have a play. When I work it out I will post up here (if thats ok) what car I used and how I went about it. Cheers, paul.
