Default VZ - Heater makes noise/burning smell (without smoke)

    Hi folks

Just a quick one, I have an 05 VZ executive. 2 things happen when using the heater (either but seldom both)

1- The heater makes a sound like a card flapping on the spokes of a bike wheel

    or

2 - Burning rubber smell outside, with no smoke

Reading up, most seem to think that this is a sign that the heater core is the cause? anyone able to confirm who may have had the same problems?

also, what was the cost to replace. I dont have the time for a DIY job and have never pulled the dash off a commodore either.

    Cheers
    Mike

I would check the heater fan compartment . It's an easy job- about 10mins. Sounds like there is some debris in there.

I fully concur with that. Especially the old 'card in the bicycle spoke' sound.

its actually a 5 minute job (I did it on the weekend to find a rattle!)

Climb under the glovebox, unplug the cable, and undo the 4 screws that hold the motor in ... wallh, fan pops right out!

    lol Enrico

Matts post is a big help. Are the cars supposed to have a tray under there? Ive never had to attack one of the other cars in our lot, just mine and it doesnt (but that means nothing)

If thats the case then theres ya extra 5 mins !!!

Also, off topic but my rattle issue was caused by that metal grille Matt points out in point 3, that sits under the plenum cover under the bonnet . On speed 1 and 2 it could be heard but not 3 or 4 and it sounded like it was coming from the air vents or under the glovebox. Took me hours to work it out
