Default Vz v6 LSD diff and ratio change advice please

So im thinking bout getting an LSD diff and new gears for my v6 175km wagon.
Can anyone help me out with info and prices.
Iv heard id need a v8 manual diff cos my standard diff is to small to change the gears and get LSD.
Iv done a search and got no clear answers.
    Thanx guys

Give some more info on why you want to change your diff. And where you drive.

You're looking at around 1G for a reco complete. Or you can buy new for around $1500.

I have been told the yolk (flange) is larger on the 8's. But ther seems to be some disagreement on this.

Your open 3.08 diff is worth bugger all.

You will need to budget for installation and speedo recalibration.

IMO get a changeover unit with some shorter gears. Either 3.46 or 3.73.

I brought a 3.46 lsd unit off ebay. 2nd hand. Ive got a 175 in my ute. can say it drives much better. I would not go 3.7 if you do a lot of highway driving. with 3.46 at 100km/h the revs sit at about 2000 compared to 1600 with 3.08. I have never found a different sized yoke flange. my diff was out of a VZ 6.0L and it bolted straight up with no problems.

i think from memory i paid about 500 bucks. yeh i did fit it my self, had access to a hoist which made it easier. but they are a very simple diff to r&r.

Was it necessary to get anything 'tuned' or recalibrated???

I have 3.46 (auto) which does not feel much different from the previous 3.08.

If I had it all to do again I would go shorter again (3.73?).

It has also been suggested by some going 3.73 will require shift points to be changed.

my vu has 3.46 Diff gears. it aint an LSD though. so im looking into getting it made into an LSD instead of buying a whole new one with the same gears. 3.46 ratio gives it great take off speed. i sit on about 2200ish in 5th on 100km's.

Where did u get that done and how much did it set u back?

By extending the shift points, does that mean it will shift quicker or will it hold in gear for longer before changing to the next.
    What's better lol.
