    Default Gearbox syncro problems

Ive got a 6 speed manual in my ute and 2nd gear has been an annoying problem lately. Whenever i try to change from 3rd to 2nd above 1600rpm the teeth chatter, and anything after that and it gets worse. Sometimes it just wont go in, as if i don't have the clutch in.

I know the syncro is probably worn to the point it needs a box swap. But i was wondering if anyone knew if getting a thinner oil has an effect on gear meshing?
    I've got a mono 90w in currently.

I laughed so hard when I saw this. The 6 speed box has a terrible habbit of doing this. Especially under load. I put a bandaid on this problem with thinner oil and putting an intercooler on it.

I used to be known as Crunch because of its annoying habbit of making noise when going from 2nd to 3rd.

Woops, i mean 3rd to 2nd. 2nd to 3rd always crunches. And its not just a crunch, its a full grind.

I noticed you mentioned the clutch not feeling as if it wasn’t operating.
Wouldn’t hurt to flush & bleed the clutch system with new fluid.... then you can rule that out.
Penrite make oil recommended for the 6 speed called SIN Manual Trans, did wonders for a workmates SV6.
Can’t say whether this might cure the problem, but it’s worth having a look at.

If its just a light crunch, its normal.

Anyway, i chucked in 80w90 castrol. Perfect, almost.

is the box fitted with a rip shifter or a std shifter ?? are you race changing the gears or nursing it along ?? can use Castrol TQ DIII for thinner fluid but by the sounds of it the damage is already done and time for a rebuild $$$
