Hey Gents and or Ladies,
I just picked up my new VZ SV6 (05) on tuesday. She drives like a dream. I was just curious to know whats the best plan of attack for an exhaust kit. I was told by my brothers mate to get a set of extractors and a 2.5 inch exhaust (not a 3inch so there is no droning). The current exhaust is stock so obviously silent.... Gotta fix that problem. If you havent noticed I am very very very new at this modification business and dont know my "terminoligy" that well. So cheers for any input!
Are you looking for performance, sound or both? What do you want to spend?
I have single 2.5inch with twin high flow cats and a 2 1/4 dual tip (makes no difference in sound really). Putting pacemakers on it within the next couple of weeks.
At the moment it sounds ok. Has a bit of a roar but not as much as you would expect from custom made system. (there is an exhaust shop up here that makes the cat back systems himself and they sound nicer then most the mass produced ones).
I do the twin 2 1/4" into a single 3" system specifically designed for the VZ V6. $495 shipped to your door. Add $420 if you want extractors as well. Hi flow cats will make a big difference to sound, but not a great deal to performance. I do those for $195 each for universal cats that will have to be welded in.
The system goes twin 2 1/4" off the cat pipes, into two 2 1/4" straight through mufflers, then merges into a single 3" and through a 3" resonator at the rear.
Well both performance and sound I guess. Would like a nice growl what I give her some juice!
Oh and price isnt too much of an issue.
I'm running a dual 2 1/4in all the way from cat back with pacemakers. It does drone a little but has a really nice bark higher up in the revs. Breaking it in though took a while for the bark to disappear at the lower revs. And its also has a little noticable punch to it (not too much though). Personally i swear by pacemakers just because they are tried and tested pair that up with 100 count metal racing cats and a single 2 1/2in system you have a nice tone with a bit of punch
Hope this helps
2 speed powerglide...fast and faster
who would you recommend manufacturer wise? quality of parts, warranties etc
and performance*
I recommend Manta, I have been doing Manta for 20 years and never had an issue with warranty back up or quality. The system that I described above has been dyno tested and with the research that Manta put into their systems, this was found to give the best improvement without any drone.
Are these aftermarket exhausts stainless or mild steel? I wouldn't be changing a stainless system that will probably last the life of the car with a steel one that will rust out. If your just after noise you could probably just change the rear muffler and save some coin?

Been doing some light reading in some old forum threads and have found alot of info. WOuld it really be worth doing a full exhaust kit (extractors, pacemakers, cat back etc) as I am on my Green P's and suspect it will attract alot of negative attention from the Police? Or just slap a muffler on the back? I just dont like the silence.... And how much are both alternatives? Full kit including installation and rear muffler including installation?
I have a single 2.5" with hiflow cats and extractors. Dont bother with whole system, just get single 2.5" with 1 straight through muffler if you want some noise, and an additional small straight through muffler if you want it quiet. When i had just 1 muffler it would really open up at about 3000rpm, after i did cats and extractors it was too loud, and not the nice loud that you hear from a block away and admire, it was the one which made you hate screaming Jap 4's. Probably just need a better muffler.

give everything a spray with wd40 wheels brakes that should fix the squeaks
The SV6 with the 190kW output benefits more from the whole exhaust, not just cat back. Putting a single 2 1/2" on it will make it sound like shit. A lot of people on here have done that and regretted it.
As I said earlier, I can do the extractors, cats and the system for $1305 shipped to your door.
if your wondering about removing the rear or intermediate muffler i did it on my ute and left it dumping behind the rear axle, considering it cost me nothing im pretty happy with it, it gives a bit of a note without being too loud and drawing attention, means i dont have to spend money on an exhaust for a while haha if you want i can probably do a vid and post up? also one of my mates told me it sounds the same as my other mates vz v6 ute which has a system on it

I think I might just put a rear muff on there. When I get off them i will be getting a v8 anyways (we can only hope). Just not happy with opening up the taps a bit and hearing nothing but engine......
