    Default VZ Front strutt issue!!

    Hey guys.
was working on lowering my car last night. did the Rears fair easy and was donig the fronts, got one done and then was working on the front Left strut and and the bottom line is..
the top of the strut underneath the bonnet there is a nut that you have to undo so that you can get the strut out from underneath. we had a socket on the top (10mm) and then had the ring spaner on the nut, then we have managed to lock the nut onto the socket and can't get it off..
    My question is:
if i use an angel grinder to the thread under the nut, will i still be able to undo the next nut that holds the top of the spring even though i will not be able to hold onto the top of the thread??
    if that makes sence?
please help ASAP as i need the car for tomorrow.
    cheers.
    Jake.

so your talking about the second nut in the assembly?.. see picture >> VZ Front strutt issue!!-strut.jpg
If you cut the top nut off, you wont be able to use the shocky anymore as you cant exactly tighten it on top without the thread, unless your replacing the shockies too?

its the first nut that's an absolute bastard to get off, I use the air compressor to spin it off. another way if you dont have an air compressor is use a g-clamp or something along those lines to grab onto the spinning strut underneath the wheel arch then try undo the top nut.
Otherwise the second nut is not hard to take off at all.

does the top of your strut not have a place for an allen key or to put a spanner to prevent from spinning?

    cheers for the info buddy.
It was the first nut, and the problem was, a mate who was helping me with the procedure of lowering my car, smashed a 10mm socket on there and it was on there really tight. so when we were un-doing the 1st nut, it managed to start to thread on the socket and then he tried to get the nut of by going the other direction and then it ####ed the thread on the nut, so my solution was angel grider just below the firt nut that was stuck on the socket and then got the shocker out, (i have new shocks, lucky!! ) then i used multi grips and some gripy rubber shit and then undid the second nut and it was all go from there.
    thanks for ya help bud.
