I have a noisy pulley on cold startup, squealling when auto changes gear, quietens down when warm, but has rattley ticking sound, how does one find exactly which pulley is noisy? apologiies if this has been covered before, I'm anew member and first post.
what we have here,is a failure too communicate!!
spray water/lubricant on the bearing of each pulley whilst its running until the noise disappears (temporarily)
Power is measured in DECIBEL
while its running, put a screwdriver on the bolt, and your ear to the other end of the screwdriver, the screwdriver will carry the noise via vibrations which then come out as noise at the other end of the screwdriver. just dont put it on the actual pulley or any parts that are moving, otherwise you may kill yourself, only the bolts that hold the pulleys on
Remove the belt when the engine is cold and inspect each pulley. Look for excessive play or noise.
lol im a mechanic, so i deal with many commodore and other car problems, and its the easiest and best way to hear busted pulleys. either that or buy a stethiscope and put it on the bolt, same thing![]()
a little spray with a sqirter bottle helped me find mine (same as first reply) carefully spray each pulley bearing and it will shut it up when ya spray the right one.. (if ya soak it with a garden hose so they all get wet at once it wont work/help)
bit safer than sticking ya head in it. lol if that screw driver slips and go's in the belt it will prob spin around , flick out and stab ya in the head..
think i will put a power bond underdrive kit on.
