Just shopping around for a potential project to work on and just want to know how to check for these things.
With V8s if the MAF is missing its a sure sign its been tuned. That being said I have a MAF and mines been tuned, most go MAFLESS though. They dont have chips as such, they simply flash a new tune over the old one.
VZ V6s I have no idea I presume they still flash over the original tune.
Silver Certified.
The V6's are normally flash tuned. The alloytec from memory is a pain for aftermarket piggy back chips. So most just flash the BCM, its neater, quicker, and easier.
MAFLESS is the easiest way to tell if its been tuned in the past. Cars that are running full exhaust systems have a high chance of being tuned at some point.
If there is force induction there is almost a 100% chance its been tuned (I have see 1 car that wasnt tuned with a supercharger. Though the owner was an idiot).
see the vz i have at the moment is an ex police chaser and whilst repairing the suspension and getting it dyno'd it came back 205kW at the rear wheel. its an sv6 190kW alloytech!? so im assuming there must be a performance chip possibly even the original police chip but as im not a cop or mechanic i dont know what to look for. from the sidewalk it looks and sounds completely stock standard (minus the 19" wheels) and ive also noticed a slight whistling sound as the car accelerates over 100km/h. confused ahahah
i didnt beleive it either but ill try to get the dyno stats and put them up
Probably just a high reading dyno.
Silver Certified.
Mm I think it's wrong.
190KW is at the flywheel... im guessing your dyno readout is 205rwHP, or 153rwkw which is about on par with an average standard 5ltr
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
