Hey,
'My 05' VZ Storm tranny seems to have a 'gearbox slap' going on.. first thinking that the audioably loud clunking noise was either the one of the universals or even the diff, but putting it up on the hoist this afternoon and troubleshooting the area it was coming from, has pin pointed the gearbox.. not happy. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so how did you fix it?
mind explaining exactly what it sounds like, mine started sounding pretty ordinary with a cluck when I take off. Though I am more inclined to blame my diff on it lol
yeah its mostly a loud thump, or up to 2-3 at times really quickly as you put the clutch in and then same thing when you pull it back out again.. mostly happens when going from 1st to 2nd but it did it today from 3rd to 4th too.
Ah damn, I think mine has developed the same thing then. Mind keeping me updated with how this all goes?
sure thing mate, will do.
How many Ks have you guys got on it?
Its just diff backlash. Turn the tailshaft by hand back and forth and you'll get about 1/4 of a turn. Normal. Get the crownwheel shimmed if your worried about it.
the ute has done just on 130k. Talking to a trusted friend who is continuously working on his statesman and is also into track cars, it could be a start to get a bearing and gasket kit off ebay and pull the gearbox and re-do the bearing.. did the trick with the diff, she is pretty tight.
