any one a) knows what its for, and b) whys there oil coming out of itt?
also while where at it, ive got a bit of oil on the timing cover, any ideas on that?

When i had an old wb ute with a 202 in it i had oil up in my air cleaner... turned out oil was bypassing the oil rings and blowing into the air cleaner...
Not sure if its the same thing but a possibility... is the car blowing smoke or anything else funny?
nuh not blowing smoke as far as i know?
Pretty common with the alloytecs, also common for the timing cover to leak near the alternator.
On the intake manifold just before the throttle body on the drivers side theres a rubber hose that comes off at an elbow, make sure thats not split as that can cause it to idle rough if its leaking. You can see it in the pic you posted.
Silver Certified.
I'm gonna say its your PCV valve not working correctly. Althought this line should have oil 'vapour' going through it, it shouldn't have a thick build up as you described. If your PCV valve is either stuck open or closed it will cause a rough idle condition until it has warmed up as you have experienced. I suggest you replace it as the valve costs next to nothing and its about a 1 hour job to replace it
