Last couple of weeks the car has struggled a bit to turn over.
So thought battery might be on the way out.
This morning came out car turned over once stopped and all the doors locked.
Turned the key off turned back on let it run the system check.
Came up ok so fired it up no problems.
Same thing happened when I left work.
So stopped at auto elec on the way home.
Threw testing gear on - battery cactus but alt charging ok.
Changed the battery tested again all showed ok.
Went out to appointment so drove for 30 mins or so.
Came out from appointment 30 mins later and car did not even turn over.
System check came up
Very low fuel
Service vehicle soon
Fuel gauge error contact dealer
Got over a quarter of tank of fuel but needle just goes to empty mark now.
Will not even attempt to fire
Anyone got any ideas or suggestions?
hmmmm, ecu guys???
So turned the key to acc to unlock the steering to get on tow truck and speedo jumped to 60 then back to 0 and all lights came on with system check as if i had turned the key far enough to start the car.
when i got home we did the same thing to move it into the garage and nothing.
once in the garage i turn the ign on so i could write down the errors and i got no errors - fuel need went back to just over a quarter and system check came up "OK"
thinking it is eitehr fried or intermittent issue tried to start it but not even a clicking noise.
so ecu???? or other ideas?
For anyone that is interested - fixed it tonight.
Mate form across the road and i did some deep research and found that the errors indicated immobiler or starting system issue.
Did some playing around/investigation and found if i gave the starter motor a few taps i managed to get it to start once.
So tonight i swapped the starter motor and still the issue was the same. But this time with the ignition still on and beeping its errors i bumped the positive wire off the battery and saw things arc up around the alternator.
Under the car i went and after much digging around and prodding found the earth wire right under the alternator was loose.
When i managed to get right into the nut that was holding the earth wire on i found it was only just holding on to the last of the threads.
After much mucking around have been able to tighten and suprisingly it starts 1st time now - also with new battery and new starter motor starts the best it ever has.
So you know for next time, all computerised sensors and computers run a certain input voltage, if you have very low voltage from a bad battery or connection, it will make the gauges compare input to output incorrectly, thats what caused your fuel problems and other funky stuff.
