    Default VZ overheating!!

Noticed one day when driving temp needle above half way almost to red then drop again. replaced the water pump and gave it a coolant flush but still when i was in the city a few weeks later did the same thing would go up 3/4 then drop again, so went back and replaced the thermostat/housing
through peoples advice so got that done which is a bastard to do in these cars. gave it some pedal on the way home the day i got it done to test the problem still heated. No coolant leaks have been found. also some sort of burning smell is coming out of the motor it would never get into the red
zone just before it would drop! anyone got any ideas? its a pain trying to solve whats wrong with it!

I had a similar problem. My mechanic just bled the radiator making sure no air bubbles were present and all is fixed.

where you moving or stationary when the temp shot up? are your fans working properly? also Im sure the vz has a 2 speed fans, low for normal cooling and high when the temp gets up there

I have the exact same problem, I am starting to think it is the thermostat. It happened once during heavy traffic and I blew my radiator because I couldn't stop. Had it replaced, and it still happens when I am stationary.

it is always the thermostat that fails first, the second working part in the cooling system

if you ever get one of those HIGH reading then back to normal and you forget about it.... it will become seized thermostat and blown radiator

Thermostat for sure happened to me. Car temp was goin up and down then car stalled and smoke poured from engine with a shocking smell. Thermostat was stuck open. Get it looked at and pressure tested cause could be gasket leaks aswell. I was to late with my car and ended up coating me 1700 and still need to get head machined cause I cocked at valves and I have bad compression in two of the cylinders.

Also could be radiator blocked. Vac hoses and any leaks in the engine. Everything adds up. Still say thermostat but a pressure test will show what's happening and how deep it may go. Hope this helps
