Default VZ Calais Sterio - help wanted

    Hey guys,

just bought me a VZ calais. Now what i want to do with the sterio is leave the headunit, replace all speakers with new high quality speakers.

Now what i need to know is
    - can i just replace the door speakers with 6" splits or 3 ways or whatever i chose and use standard wiring?
    - can i replace the 8" subs in the parcel shelf with some more 6" or splits or whatever i decide later on and get the sound through, not just bass?
    - and can i just put a speaker wire to RCA converter just before the factory amp, taped into a speaker wire and run an aftermarket amp and sub?

Basicly saving all wiring, keeping the standard amp.. and still being able to run 8 speakers AND an aftermarket sub in the boot and all work properly off the standard head unit

any help would be great thanx

    Hey mate,

Congrats on buying a VZ Calais. Great choice.

I've done just about everything to my Calais's sound system that you plan on doing. I've changed the fronts to Apline Type S splits, the tweeters replacing the stock tweeters aswell. Rears are Kicker DS600 2ways all wired up to the standard headunit and wiring. I've also got a 12" sub and monoblock running off a Stinger Line Out Converter wired before the stock amp. Make sure you invest in a quality Line Out Converter as cheap ones can really sound awful. Also get a monoblock amp with bass control as the stock headunits don't adjust too well with an aftermarket sub. I've got my rear 8" subs disconnected since they sound so bad. You could throw in a set of 6" 2 or 3 ways in instead but i'd say you would need to make some sort of bracket to account for the 2 inches of difference in size to hold the speaker there. You would also need to wire them before the stock amp as the stock amp will give only give you bass with no treble.

Turn off the audio distortion limiter, set the Bass to STD and Treble to +2 with the right amount of bass from the sub in the boot and you have a much better sounding system then stock.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck!
