so what is the actual difference between a vz exec airbox and monaro airbox? do u need to do the two hole mod to get the extra induction?
or will the mcai be enough of a difference?

The MCAI will work just as well the 2 hole mod.
The Monaro airbox just has a 'scoop' at the front. Which just does the exact same job as the 2 hole mod. The Monaro airbox just looks neater (only if you are lazy otherwise it still looks good).

Personally I suggest going with the 2 hole mod, or even having a look at MACE's website for their cold air intakes.

Ive done the 2 hole mod with the MCAI
The Monaro shroud is like azazeldeath said, just a scoop that attaches to the front of the air box. It would just replace the 90 degree pvc fitting with minor cuts to the shroud to fit.
To answer your question you need the 2nd hole for the extra induction.
The Monaro shroud will catch a little more cold air from behind the headlight, not much more than the 90 degree bend.
Another half hour is all you need to cut out thr other hole and its done.

I did post pictures of how I did the two hole mod on my CV8 which showed the Monaro scoop but it got deleted for some reason.
