Ok, for the last two weeks my gearbox has been acting weird. Basically at any revs bellow 2k under load the revs were fluctuating and the car was shuddering like the torque converter was not working properly. Today i drove it to the mechanics to get it looked at and it has stopped working altogether. I put it in Drive and i can rev it all the way to redline without the car moving. Does anyone know what the issue could be?? Im thinking it could be the gearbox pump is dead or the Torque converter has shit itself? My mechanic can not have a proper look at it till tuesday...
checked the tranny fluid level?
Incase anyone else needs to use this thread as a reference i had the gearbox rebuilt. It turned out the gearbox pump was dead as well as a few broken oil seals in the box. It cost $2500 for the rebuild.
You serviced the tranny every 15k? Thats a bit extreme!

I spose it did extend the life of your tranny, oh wait....

They would have been in great condition had you serviced it every 30k so your point is moot.

Mate if you drive the car quite hard the tranny runs a fair whack hotter then the usual operating temp, this dramatically reduces the life of the tranny oil. My mechanic is a auto tranny specialist and makes a fortune out of people that don't regularly service them. Ill take his word over yours thanks.
I have a similar issue where, if its sitting around 50-60km with around 1000-2000 revs and i try accelerating, especially when going down or up a hill, the transmission makes a grinding noise and the car shudders big time, then changes up a gear.
Would it not have been the same cost to just get a second hand 5-speed transmission for the cost of the rebuild?
I got stung by a mechanic who said he fixed the issue, as it was apparently caused by the radiator being blocked for the trans cooler and also sludge in the transmission but no metal shavings. He charged a bucket load with a new radiator and such and the issue returned within a week.
Wondering if it could be the trans pump?
I have no idea of the service history of this car (as i havent had it for long) and there was no log book at all. So i assume the previous owner drove the car down to the point he traded it in.
Going by your logic I should change my engine oil every 1000kms because I drive it hard.
Your mechanics an idiot.

Do you make a habit of making up figures to back up your claims? lol
I know what Im talking about and Ive dealt with plenty of mechanics with that much experience and more who are idiots. If someone is intellectually challenged and fumbles their way through an apprenticeship they will still be a moron 35 years later.
Whats the bet this awesome mechanic of yours is doing these auto trans services for you every 15k. Maybe hes not so stupid after all as he takes all your money.

I didn't make those figures up buddy, i also know what i am talking about and i have owned a few highly worked cars including a 10 sec Lx Hatch. Im not prepared to argue with you about this on an internet forum but i will say this. My mechanic is a family friend and he is good at what he does, my father is also a mechanic by trade. How about you do some research and you may find what i said is actually correct, Especially about the 20 Deg F raise in temp halving the oils life.
Getting ripped off by a family friend thats a bit harsh.

Far from a troll but you keep believing everything you hear it bothers me not.

Yep and your opinion does not bother me. Unless you are a Mechanic and have actually pulled apart and rebuilt an Auto tranny your opinion means squat.
Also check this thread, it seems HoldenOnn changes the oil in his gearbox every 20k. Is he also an idiot??
VZ SV6: 5-speed auto transmission servicing
No not at all. I was unlucky to have the pump fail. Im sure there are many Auto Vz's going around with close to 200k with no tranny issues. Just make sure you service the gearbox at the correct intervals, if you use the same oil that Holden use in the car from the factory the service intervals are 120k but i would do it more often to be safe. I service mine every 15k due to the car seeing some track time and the oil is usually just starting to smell a little burnt.
Ricey
i really dont see why you commented in this thread at all?
it must have bothered you so much that he services it every 15,000kms that you just had to comment on that
If you have no proof that him servicing the tranny every 15k, then you really should reasses your life and how you spend your time? lol
torana355, what were the first signs of anything going wrong?
i've got a strange feeling my 2nd gear stays in gear just a bit too long (auto)
LOL this thread truly is a joke and now all the retarded sheep are flocking in.
