Hi gurus, 1 quick question, I have the SVS issue on my VZ. You could say it is more than likely the Oil press sens, and if it is, is there an issue with driving the car while I wait ( no more than 2 weeks) to get it fixed?? The engine isn't going to cut out or anything? I obviously have to put up with the beeping though.... Haha
I am going to ring around for quotes, so I need to ask for, a Tech2 test but it will more than likely be the sensor... Will most mechanics do the tech2 test for free?? Leading to the sensor being changed of course??
Thanks in advance
Syd
Pull the oil pressure sensor plug out(dont unscrew the sensor, you will find oil, i mean pull out the electrical plug) and check if there is oil in it, if there is oil the seal has failed and that's causing your problems. Happened to me, went to repco, got trade price $80 for new sensor.
Most mecs will charge at least $40, holden $60, ultratune $80+ just to check codes. I dare say 99% of the time it's the oil pressure sensor. And it is ok to drive. But there will be a point where the beeping will make you commit suicide, it will happen, look for the signs and pull over.

yea should be okay but do as the other guy said its easy too get too.
Thanks guys. I forgot to mention that I have absolutely nil mechanical experience or knowledge. Managed to find the plug so literally pull the clip end (closest to the front of car) out and see if there is any oil? Will it clip back in??
Yea mate, just a plug, should pull out and clip back in no problems.

They do leak oil when they fail but not always.
Silver Certified.
I got the same problem. It started yesterday this SVS message.
My car isn't due for its 130k service. I got my mate to use the scan tool.
It found the oil pressure switch error. My question is once I replace it.
Does the message SVS disappear.
What the price for the part?
Sam
Im sure Ive replaced them before and the message kept coming up till I cleared the code but Im old and my memory is cactus so I could be wrong.
Silver Certified.
I have been quoted 66 for the scan and $100 for the part... Free fitment though.
Once the part is installed it normally goes away. And honestly it is easy to fit. And if it doesn't go away its worth buying a cheap scan tool. I got mine for $70 inc postage and it is probably the best tool I have bought, can clear codes. Save them, give you a description of the fault code.
My rides
VZ Crewman S Pack 6 speed
HJ/HQ One Tonner with a worked 253 and 3speed auto
The switch needs a special socket, around $18 from Repco, Once it is installed, the SVS message clears automatically - there is no need for a scan tool to clear it. It is such a simple job, it seems a shame to have to pay a mechanic to do it for you. He would be dearer than the price of the socket.
The other question is do I go for genuine parts from Holden or aftermarket one from Repco, Burson or Supercheap?
all probally come from the same manafacture diffrent boxes and $$$
I rang Holden today, The price is $93.00 incl gst. Going to buy this part this week.
Can anyone tell me if they know about these scan tools or if they any good.
Creader Vi scan tool
Well it was the oil press sense, 170 bucks installed. Very happy!
