is it still doing it? My car just started doing the same thing i think. It seems to happen more at lower revs than high and more when im turning the wheels.
Were you doing any of the above when it happened to you?

Check your oil level. That's a start. And when you check it, dump a hand full of oil and examine it for metal fleck in the sun.

yeh theres a number of things ... what gear was it between? What kind of driving was it?

Could be time for an oil change, when was it done last?

When mine gets hot, like in M4 peak hour, it clunks between 2nd and 3rd alot but once I get going and it cools down its right.

I had the same problem but its actually the oil cooling down, the gearbox only generates heat while the teeth are under load. When I went on the highway my gearbox changed really well, but once I stopped it got bad again. After that I changed to a slightly thinner oil. Perfect. so the oil gets thinner and hotter with load. The rubbish oil I had in it was straight 90w. I put in 80w90, made all the difference.

Remember there is a 2nd to 3rd clunk on almost every box out there, that's unavoidable. Its the 3rd to 2nd or anything else that's the problem.

I recommend getting castrol multitrax 75w90 or 80w90. Make sure that straight 90w is never used, it ruins your cold shifting.

Does it happen more in peak hour or constant high load like highway or hills.

yeah more around the suburbs and in traffic, it loves the open road but when it goes up a hill i loose power rather quickly and it seems to change down a gear or two
sorry on another note is it ok to drive around in 'power shift' mode all the time? My mate says it is but im not 100% sure

Firat you need to disregard every post I made because I thought you had a manual. And it is 100% OK to drive in power all the time, all it does is hold the revs longer, which also uses more fuel.

i haven't tried it myself but i seen an oil additive you can put in your transmission. Its meant to make the gear changes smoother. Im going to try it soon to see if it helps at all

are you sure it's the trans? diff backlash can produce the same niose through the drive line, holden LSD is notorious for this.

There shouldnt be any clunks from gear to gear regardless of auto or manual.

If its severe and started suddenly Id be checking for a failed component in the tail shaft (rubber couplings for example), diff or drive shafts resulting in excessive backlash.
