hey people,
Im planning on downgrading from my SSV ute. I know some of you will be likebut i need the extra cash.
Been looking at VY's and VZ's v6's not really fussed which. Want one with 110,000 to roughly 140,000.
Is there many issues i need to be looking out at this sort of kms. Im planning on keeping it for around another 100,000 kms.
Do the motors on both the VZ and VY last well into the 200,000 kms when serviced properly?
Dont want it to be breaking down on me after only afew months of owning the thing!
Any information greatly appreciated!

To be honest not many have a vz over 200,000, but I haven't heard anything bad so far. As long as you got one of a cruzy driver, the 6sp gearboxes won't cop much. And the clutch will die in that time, most likely.

not really after a manual. Ive driven manual since i learnt to drive 7 years ago. So some mindless driving
might be nice for a change
Is the knocking found on alot of VY's still common in the VZ's?
Mate my VZ has 210,000km on the clock and she still runs like a dream.
I do on average 80km a day and my car has an oil change every 5,000km and full service once a year.
And no knocking to speak of.
Brendan
have you thought about a supercharged vy v6?
Not after speed at all. Would that be the only benefit? After going from the 6 litre just not that fussed just need the transport!
go the vy that way ya dont get the crap timing chain of the vz
My Dad has 440 k on his vz and its still running well
The vy ecotec has more low end torque, makes for a nicer drive, I expect that you would rather have driveable torque than gutless revving of the vz, since you have had a v8. But the vz does have some advantages like fuel because its electronic.

Been looking on carsales. Seems like alot of people are dreaming when it comes to prices. Wanting to spend 11-12 with stamp duty included. But will have to see. Had alook at prices on redbook and not afraid of a hard bargain or a low ball
Anyone know of cars for sale in adelaide region? Worth checking auctions??
Go to an auction if you know what your doing, otherwise you can get ripped bad.

i got my vz commodore from an auction house, i got it before it was given to the public, but the auctioneer that if it was given to the public anything over $10k for 130k kms for a vz, it's too much at auction,
Try Pickles.com.au
They have 100's of VZ's under 10K
Most are fleet cars used for highway driving. My car come from there
Less likely to get a grenade engine with VY, as VZ V6s must be serviced regularly or they sludge up and die. VY V6s tend to be a lot more forgiving when it comes to servicing.
Silver Certified.
Gonna look for a vz i reckon as want something abit newer, vy's getting abit old and most of them seem
to have a heap of kms on them.
Unfortunatly there arent any on pickles in adelaide atm. So will chuck a product alert on and sit tight. Need to sort out getting rid of my ute too. Dont really want to though!
On a side note. Prices on carsales are really starting to #### me off. People are dreaming. The prices vary so much!!
People trying to sell vy s2 executives!! for like 11-12k and vy's with 120,000 clicks for 10,000-12k. All when there is good vz's on the market with 100,000 for 11k. WTF?
Was wanting to spend like 8 as there ####ing old cars and can get omegas
for 12-13k from gov auctions with high kms which are 2007-2008.
Anybody bought a vy or vz recently? How much did you pay?
Ya reckon its rude trying to knock off 3-2k when haggling. If so i might end up pissing afew people off lol.
I could be dreaming myself though and thinking cars should be cheaper than they are!

dude i'm in the same boat as u and i totally agree!
people are selling their vz's with 180,000 km's on carsales for like 14k in NSW.
I think i'm just gonna say like - look mate i dont want to waste anytime on my or ur behalf but ill give ya $xxxxx ? I wonder if that'll piss them off too. If they say get ####ed ill be like well gl selling ur car mate.
Btw id definetly buy a VZ if I were u, like apparently the VY's sound like shit when ya rev em a bit. Plus 6th gear (on manual anyway) is just epic for highway driving.
Can anyone tell me whats the deal with the VY's rumbling and shit at high revs? I like to drive at higher revs, the cars more punchy and fun (in a safe way). Would buying a VY be bad for me then cos its only for like grandma driving?
Cheers
I just purchased a vz my06 wagon, from what i can gather its an ex ambo vehicle, is factory dual fuel (gas injection) and has 185,00km on it. It also has a sports exhaust system, tinted windows, super low springs and 20" wheels, because another young bloke had it for about a month before trading it on a ve. It came with FE2 suspension and a new set of stockies, due to road worthy requirements. I am fitting the other springs and tyres this weekend. I picked it up for $12000, got a minimum $3000 trade-in and the saddest part is it was one of the cheaper wagons anywhere near me. Others are up around $15-$17000.
I want my executive for under 9 grand so might be a push with 120,000ish kms. There is some out there
but gonna be a push.
Dont care about exhaust notes or if its an auto just gonna be a cruiser. I prefer the vy ss bumpers so swaying towards the vy but resale might be shitter.... Hrm decisions!
mog_uk, i don't think you,e looking too well here in Adelaide, plenty of vz,s for sale in $8_10k range, check out gum tree and Car Sales, iv,e seen lots with 100_150klm some with gas.
what we have here,is a failure too communicate!!
i just bought a 2005 vz exec for $11k with factory fitted fe2 suspension, 18" rims with 40 profile tyres black as tinted windows with 147k on the clock. The body is straight as and the interior is emaculate. Everything in my area was around the same price but in worse condition
Buy an sv6, don't bother with an exec, otherwise you may as well buy a vy. The transmissions in the sv6 vz is a lot better than the 4sp auto, as they are a lot smoother, and more refined. Btw, I own a raptor vz, with 176,000 on it and no problems yet
Bought my vz Calais with 160,000 on the clock for $12,000 had it for like 4 months. She runs pretty sweet.
Lets not get mixed up between VYs and VZ.. for all you who dont know.. they have 2 completely different motors, VY, Ecotec Push Rod.. VZ, alloytec, DOHC..
What feels like mindless revving in the VZ will provide usefull acceleration to obliterate the standard ecotec. This has been proven plenty of times at willowbank, just ask Rookie.. Infact i know of a VZ Sv6 that beat a raptor VS down the track quite some time ago, there might be a video of it on youtube.
Further, if you buy a vz sv6 you sport leather steering wheel, 5 speed auto (as rich said), FE2 Suspension, power windows and a whole range of optional extra's.
In my opinion, scrap the VY, its old and the ecotec is out dated... get yourself an Alloytec either in the VZ or VE form.. Calais or SV6.. both nice responsive cars.
