    Default VZ SV6 Misfiring? :(

Okay guys, about a week ago, i started to notice that my car was idling funny at times, seemed as if it was going to stall. Then as the engine got warmer, the rough idle seemed to disappear. But now the car just runs really rough all the time as if it was misfiring Then all of a sudden "Check Powertrain" came up on the dash, so we immediately put the scan tool onto it. The scan tool came up with something along the lines of "Fuel injector error cylinder 2" or something like that. So we changed the spark plugs, cleaned the fuel injectors and changed the fuel filter....and now its running worse than before :S At the moment, the car is stuck in the workshop until we have time to have another look at it. Anyone have any idea what could be the problem? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Remove injector 2 and swap it over with any other injector, then run the engine untill the code comes up again and check to see what number comes up. If the code now shows the cylinder number that you put the number 2 injector into, then that injector is faulty and either needs replacing.

I don't work for Holden or work on small vehicles so I'm just going by basic diagnosis. Correct me if this is a bad method.

We erased the code, replaced all the injectors and ran the engine, connected the scan tool again but same code came up

    Could be a faulty ECU

Ask Holden what faults trigger that code. It could be something related to the operation injectors but not them exactly. Ecu must be a last resort.

Holden will tell us to bring the car to them and charge me an arm and a leg. Yeah we are hoping it's not the ECU, so we are trying everything else. We haven't had time to have a look at it yet :S

So instead of getting a proper diagnosis, and "spending an arm and a leg" sending it to people who know what they're doing you'd rather spend money on mis-diagnosis and the wrong fixes. And then as a last resort spend more money?

Do it once, do it right.

Settle down mate, I'm good mates with a holden tech. He isn't free until mid next week, so I thought I would come on here in the mean time to get any other input. On top of that, I don't exactly have "an arm and a leg" to spend.

    I can understand that mate...

Have you considered replacing the coils?
I've had the same rough idle problem a couple of times now and both times I replaced just one coil (tried one at a time till I found the dodgy one) to fix the problem. I've now got it starting to happen again so this time I'll just replace the lot. Not a cheap fix though.

I'd say it's a coil that's faulty, not sure if this is a good way to distinguish which one it is but while the engine is running unplug one at a time and the one that doesn't make a change to the idle is probably the one that needs to be replaced.

Well when we first put the scan tool on, and it came up with the "injector 2 malfunction" we switched coil 2 with coil 4 to see if that was the problem. although it came up saying the exact same thing which cancels out a faulty coil. However, i was playing around with the scan tool and ended up with 2 codes on the screen. The first one was "P0202-00 Injector 2 control Circuit Malfunction", the second code was "P0521-00 Oil Pressure Sensor" which was strange because I put a new oil pressure switch in about 2 months ago. I looked up the P0202-00 code on google and found some possible causes. So at the moment, we are in the process of stripping all the tape off the wires running to the coils and seeing if there is a short circuit or a broken wire in there somewhere.

That's a fair effort to go through each wire on there.

Maybe the oil pressure sensor is faulty again but at least that should be covered by warranty.

Yeah tell me about it LOL. We tested the wires today, everything is leading to a faulty PCM. Should get an answer tomorrow hopefully. I can see a big hole about to burst in the piggy bank
