    Default 9000RPM Alloytec?

I heard something that could be utter bs, that with the right mods an Alloytec engine can rev out to 9000RPM with no problems (and over and over).

The guy who told me is into V6 drag racing up here in Darwin. He said all it needs is an upgraded cam and a good tune.

How true is that? And if its a bit off what do you really need to do to get that kind of RPM?

I would believe that, the alloytec from a engineering point of veiw is a pretty sturdy construction, still wonder about the crank though, it would have to have the same horrible offset big ends for the firing order, leaving that massive weak spot when revved hard.

Well for starters everything in an engine is based on volume and volumetric efficiency. You get more air in by increasing cubic capacity or revs, but when you increase revs you reduce the time the air can get into the cylinder. That's why power drops off at a certain rpm.

A cam would help, but to get any volumetric efficiency at that rpm you need to do a lot more than that. The cpr6 Ute is a good example.

And at 9000 rpm the weight of the piston as it hits top dead centre may be too much for the film of oil on the bearings to hold. It will damage your engine. Unless you completely modify you internals, it will cost you an arm in engine wear and a leg to get power from it.
