so the other day the seal went on my vacum heater control valve and i lost a fair bit of coolant. had to drive the car about 10 minutes with very little coolant :S. now the fan belt is really squeaky? a fait bit of coolant did get splashed on the belts and the tensioner, but im also wandering if i couldhave burnt out my water pump due to the small amount of coolant?
Spray a little Silicone Spray or WD40 or similar on the belt while it is turning, a little not a lot, and if the squeak stops straight away then it was the belt.
If not, remove the belt and spin each item(water pump, idler pully etc) by hand and see if anything is tight or noisy.
yeah use some silicone lube. it will stop it. in my case my water pump leaks coolant onto my drive belt and i have to lube it up every couple of weeks. (only a minor weap not necessarily leak)

give everything a spray with wd40 wheels brakes that should fix the squeaks
Is everybody else missing the point where he said he drove an alloy blocked engine with little coolant in it for 10 minutes?

I've personally had it happen once on an isolated country backroad, when the gasket on my water pump blew out. Lost heaps of coolant and apart from the instrument cluster warning going spastic & the transmission going into overheat mode (locked up the torque converter the whole time & the vehicle feeling like driving with a manual transmission), it allowed me to drive it about 20km or so, so I could get to somewhere I could change out the water pump.
This happened about 11 months ago & my motor is still going like clockwork.
