I've been looking forward to the day i could dyno my car at tafe because id done work and spent coin on it. Then when i chuck it on there, it shows 80rwkw and 108 flywheel kw. This just confused me because its no slug.
All thats wrong with it that i can notice is a small miss at idle, i assume its coils because the sparkplugs are new. Ive ordered all new coils and injectors, they will be coming next week.
Ive done a mace CAI, pacemaker extractors, mace manifold spacer, crush bent straight through 2.5" exhaust, 100cell cats, new throttle body.
As far as i can tell the car hasnt really gained or lost power since i bought it. Anybody seen a figure this bad?

Who was operating the dyno? Whatever the answer is, I'd say "well there's your problem".
I'm thinking of going on a track and getting a time. Ill dyno it again on monday, clean the filter, adjust intake pipe bends. See what happens.

Hmmm... it appears I'm actually a ninja and even my posts are invisible to the untrained eye.
Sounds like a really bad dyno operator to me.
Could the problem be it's got eleventybazillion km's on it and it's not what it once was?
Cheap, fast, reliable.....you only get to choose two.
for your sake i hope its the dyno
but yeah thats what i would say
someone is playing a prank on you mate if you took it to tafe.
i wouldnt trust a tafe dyno lol
it is for sure a prank
one of your mates is like
check this out
im gonna make .... shit himself
I think your right, just asked what my dad thinks about the power when he drove it, he said it definately has more power than his rx8. Its only 140kw but it means I definately have more than that.
Thanks for the replies fellas

I really wouldnt worry what the dyno reading says, im sure my VK would have less then 80kw at the wheels but when i drive it it feels like its got plenty of go and that all that matters.
Stock power is like what 120? 130kw? At the motor?
Now it's many years old and not running right with a miss and you've done no real decent mods. Chances are it's down 10 or 20 kw from age and maybe some more with the miss problem. So 100kw at the flywheel isn't hard to believe and 80kw at the wheels might be on the money too.
Seat of the pants dyno doesn't mean much.

80-120rwkw sounds right for a v6 and theres no chance your stock n/a v6 is pushing 140rwkw+

that's on their highly clinical engine dyno designed to get that reading once out of one engine to claim that amount of power.Stock power for a VZ V6 is either 175kw or 190kw at the motor
While I doubt its down to 120/130ish I also highly doubt any car left the factory producing the 175 or 190 that's claimed. Its just an advertising thing, the same way you can get 900 kays out of a single tank *highway driving
Not to sure about that. I had a mate working QA for Holden engine operations when the SIDI motors were in Pre-production phase and he spent some time down at the engine dyno with the brand new 3L motors. First start up they were pushing 180kW and that's before they were run in and the expectation was they would easily exceed the rated 190kW once ran in. I agree the "melbourne to sydney on a single tank" thing was a gimmick (ive done that with a 10 year old VT anyway) but I reckon the engines genuinely reach their rated power
fair enough!
A 175 allowtech should have 120kw minimum, and that's probably got a fault, most stock are 140kw, and mods with tune I've seen for 160kw. But that's also with many different dyno's.

Righto so we're in the VZ section, I'm on my phone and didn't notice that. Well considering that then the dyno probably is out, unless your alloytech is particularly clapped out haha. I can't imagine a tafe dyno being the most accurate piece of machinery.

One last thing boys, what gear is 1:1. We ended up concluding it was forth, but I'd like to hear it from someone who knows. Its the 6sp manual.

Im guessing that 5th is direct drive and 6th is over drive.
Sorry, need to be certain, it may be a double overdrive.
