Default new Headers made car quiet?!? :(

Hey guys, sorry Im new to this and I know there are heaps of exhaust and header forums out there but I can't find one that relates to this. If u no of one please send me in the right direction.

I've got a vz sv6 190 kw and I put a 2 1/2 sports exhaust on (cat back) I later replaced the rear muffler with a hotdog muffler to improve the sound. (In my opinion it sounded heaps better.) and than the other day I got some redback headers fitted to it, since then the car has a slightly deeper tone, but the overall sound level has decreased dramatically!! I have never heard of this happening and was wondering if it's just a case of them needing to wear in? Or if there is anything I can do to make it louder, short of drilling holes, or removing the headers! Cheers.

I don't know myself but I've heard because it makes the pulses more directional they don't drone as much, but it might still be just as noisy outside.

When I got mine done it was way louder, but ill attribute that to the race cats that were put on at the same time. Don't take your extractors off mate, they give a nice note when the exhaust is setup right.

Changing your cats would definately give you the DB's, but if you get crap ones you might get a tinny metallic vibrating noise.

Cheers mate! Definately gonna leave them on! Just not sure about the cats though cos I'm on me p's only got a yr left but the extractors themselves could get me into a bit of trouble...thinking it might b a good idea 2 keep the car quiet for a while, I already got a EPA notice just with the sports exhaust must have got a cop on a bad day!

For futre reference though, how much are racing cats and what brand would u recommend?

I doubt that will happen again, my exhaust is very loud and i almost never get pulled up, and when they do, they let me go.

I have 2.5" 100cpsi cats, they are illegal, but i dont care, you can get 200cpsi which might just slip through because there are two of them. But honestly, who is going to check, just like half the v6's here are illegally modded. I really like these cats because they have a heatshield and a 5yr warranty, i didnt get them personally because they were a lot more expensive then they are now. 2.5" Metal Cat BOKKA 100 cpsi Stainless Steel | eBay That is only one cat so you need to double that price. I dont know anything about cat brands or anything so if someone says these cats are cheap crap, they are probably right.

Here are some 200cpsi if you are worried about emmissions, 2 X 2.5" VENOM 200 CPSI High Flow Catalytic Converters | eBay 200cpsi wont restrict at all, but it will muffle a bit more.

Isn't it funny how people on here will happily tell people to put illegal mods on there car, but as soon as someone mentions they did a burnout and got caught everyone abuses them?

Leave your exhaust how it is, it will never sound how you want it.

Thanks CRUSTN!! I'll probs end up chucking them on, just a matter of when I've got the money!!

And I got the EPA letter in the post, they wreckn the officer didn't see the need to pull me up- even though apparently I was breaking the law? Car wasn't even that loud compared to some of the v8's flying round! - all a bit dodgey if u ask me.

I put the stock exhaust on and passed the test. But when I put the sports back on, and added extractors it went quiet so now I want to make it louder!

    Na not school holidays-uni holidays!

On my setup I had another small muffler put in the rear with a bolt on flange, then I had a straight pipe with another tip put on it which I could fit instead of the small muffler. The result is a loud or quiet setup whenever you want.

Lol, best exhaust for my ears perhaps but not for power.

I'd see it as a blessing that it's quieter with headers. But seeing as the only restriction now is the cats then it's will definitely get louder when you change them. High flow cats always add some deebeez

you must have had a cop having a real bad day cos i have pacemakers with a twin 2 1/2 all the way (both cats knocked out cos i had no choice when one fell to bits by itself??) and never been pulled up, my setup is maybe a bit much but thats how i bought the car, i also get that annoying tinny noise but hoping some highflow cats 200cpsi will fix that. (probably not) p.s. have read that stock vz exhausts already have hiflow cats.
