Hi all. I was wondering if someone could tell me if I require a special tool to remove the in-line fuel filter from a VZ Commodore? (located just in front of the petrol tank)
There is a special clip that comes with the new filter and I can't quite work out how it goes on/comes off.
I don't want to have to drive the car up on ramps and go to do the job, then find out I need a special tool.
Cheers.
I've never replaced it. No need till the current one breaks.. Remove fuel pump fuse (under bonnet RHS) start engine and allow to stall. Push, Squeeze the tangs on the side of the connector, then pull.. Take note of flow direction on new filter, push connector's onto new filter, replace fuse and turn on ignition (allow to prim) and start engine then check for leaks.
Happy to show you considering that you're not to far from me (PM if you wish)![]()
Cheers,
Dave
I have used multi-grips to do all my fuel filter changes (VY same as VZ) However the connections are starting to deteriorate, so I'm going to purchase the correct tool, available in my town from Autopro. Repco has a similar tool, but it is only for the quick connect fittings, not for the filter.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
i heard those connections are pretty expensive if broken, fairly sure you have to replace the whole lines.
Life starts at 200km/h
Thanks Dave, Much appreciated. Thanks for the offer, however I'll give it a go myself and if I get stuck I'll PM you for help. Once again, much appreciated. Cheers, Rodney.
I stuffed the connections at both ends of the filter doing the 90k change and had to get the old filter replaced by a mechanic. I knew that the connections were only good for one more filter change so when the next one was due, I had to cut off the connections and replace them with bronze elbows, rubber tubing with clamps and use a VN style filter. There are other threads already about this
The lines are not dear to replace but the effort to get the old ones out and new ones in is significant. I was quoted about $11 trade for the line from the tank to the filter on my VY and $23 for the steel pipe from the filter to the engine bay. Once I had a good look at the work involved, my first thought was "F*** that". Much simpler just to replace the connections and use the (cheaper) VN filter.
