Default Towbar Bolts and Wiring Harness

    Hey guys,

recently picked up a second hand towbar to suit a VZ wagon, bar is in awesome condition, just didn't come with any bolts. I was wondering if anyone knows the type of bolts needed for a factory 1200kg bar?? also i take it there is 6 bolts needed??

Also i've heard that with the wiring harness if i get a genuine one from holden it should all just be plug and play with the harness under the carpet?? no cutting/splicing of wires needed. Is this true?

    Thanks in advance!

To Illusion, I would be very surprised if any tow bar fitter will cover a second hand bar.

Weekend Warrior, Too long ago since I fitted mine to tell you what bolts and nuts required but in relation to wiring harness, yes, factory one is plug and play although I do remember having to make a hole for the wiring to go through the rear panel behind the bar so I could feed it into the drivers rear tail light area.

Thanks for the reply! And yeah I'm not too worried about making a hole for the harness to go through, just want to make sure I buy the right bolts!! Cheers

Ahhh interesting!! So the bolts are already in there hey! Are they just sitting in there or they holding something else up as well? Also does anyone know how many newtons they should be tightened too??

    Cheers!

    Default tow bar bolts

the bolts hold on the existing crash bar that you will need to remove to put your tow bar behind then tighten as much as you can as they are big bolts and you wont break or strip them

Depends on the brand of towbar though. Some have two brackets that bolt to the car, then the main bar bolts to those, in which case you will need bolts. Any bolt will do, just get new ones. Old ones will have stretched.

It's a genuine Holden 1200kg one, appears to have 6 places for bolts, 2 at either end an two in the middle. Sound right?

The two at either end will pick up on the existing bolts that hold the intrusion bar to the body behind the bumper. The towbar replaces this bar. The other two will have to be drilled from memory and new bolts fitted. Did it come with the plate that goes inside the boot behind the two bolt positions in the middle of the bar?

Well just finished fitting the towbar!!! wasn't hard at all, only took a little over an hour and i didn't really know what i was doing. it's now on and ready to #### someones shins up! (probably mine)

Im picking up the wiring harness from holden on sat, from what i hear it's meant to be plug and play but i cant for the life of me see where it plugs into!? There is a black cord with wires exposed that look like it's been cut.... really hoping this isnt it!? as seen in pics below

Yeah and there's an extra little blue wire on the right side which is the left hand indicator.

At a minimum, I would use correctly sized high tensile steel bolts and the appropriate washers. For the cost, they would provide a safety margin, with one less thing to worry about.
