    Default SS Binnacle Gauges

Hey guys, recently came across an SS centre console with binnacle gauges, planning on throwing it in my sv6... Centre consoles are diff shapes and one has aircon and other is CC, but ill cut, glass and repaint all that into the SS one to fit mine with the aircon. Does anyone know if the SS gauges can be hooked up no worries (they are the holden ones)? Volt metre shouldnt be a prob, but oil - i read something about an adaptor for v6 and a different one for v8, has anyone done this before ? I reckon it would look mad all hooked up. Cheers in advance !!

I have heard of a vz monaro twin hump being chopped and fibre glassed to fit vy or non climate vz so yes it's possible. However the vy is simple to drop in. Voltage just needs to be plugged in to a cigarette lighter below the sterio fascia, positive, negative and illumination, 3 wires per gauge. The v6 needs an adaptor into the oil filter housing and the pressure sender and switch put on, then a small cable run from sender in the bay to the oil pressure gauge.

Yeh, ive seen the VY one, but i managed to score a whole SS centre console, one with cup holders, gear shifter etc and that nicer new design, even color coded to match my car plus factory binnacle gauges for only $100 (but not wiring), i like that design so ill try and make it work... Uhm, any idea if VDO gauges will fit in the binnacle ive looked around and they have wiring kits for their gauges to suit a v6 holden - might be the go ? Maybe even do a step by step and contribute a how to to this forum (if succesful lol), doesnt seem to be much info on this really...

That sounds good lucky you got the whole package, I wouldn't bother with the vdo ones, you can buy the oil pressure sender and adaptor on eBay possibly even an auto store, the other wiring harness you can rig up yourself, just go buy some 1mm cable from jaycar or something and some spade lugs that fit onto the back of the gauges, save yourself the money it's really simple

Good thinking man, ill go with your idea on the wiring as i would love to keep the original gauges in. Ill see how it goes. Thanks heaps.

Hmmm, cant find an adaptor on ebay... VDO has an adaptor, and wiring for oil pressure sensor for the V6, should be compatable with a bit of teaking possibly ? Then just make up the wires for voltage after...

From factory the gauges are installed with the vdo sender, so I would chase those. As long as it ranges from 0-5 bar and is electric it should be fine as long as you can get the correct adaptor which screws into the oil filter in place of the existing switch, has a side entry for the vdo sender to screw in to and the new thread for the old switch to go back in to.

Those are universal installation instructions, where you can see the pre-made electrical wires you can just make your own with regular electrical cable and save looking for the genuine one which cost about $100 or so

Yeh because climate is electric there is a 12v supply but since I'm assuming the car is just regular pov a/c like mine with mechanical dials there's no supply. The closest which is behind the lowest pocket under the stereo and ahead of the gear stick, there is a 12v plug and includes illumination which is all that's needed

Getting the right adapter with correct thread for new oil press gauge is the bitch, I installed some nice speco street series gauges in my vz, the wiring is straight forward as suggested by other member.

Yeh mines got ac, go cutting out the cc controls and glassing my ac into the ss centre console will be loads of fun, after that the rest seems fairly easy according to yous

Just picked up the dash, seems the binnacles have 1 x 8pin plug to get them both working, cani open the back of that and custom wire it or is there some other way to sort the mess out ?

Ouch. Have you test fitted them to the housing? If your game enough to pull the gauges apart it would make the job simple, but with no wiring diagram it's almost impossible to guess what goes where. They both need positive, negative, illumination, and the oil pressure needs the power from the sender. So there's 3 for voltage and 4 for oil pressure.
