Hi there,
I just bought a VZ Calais and changed the volume control butoons and they work fine. I now have an issue where when i satrt driving within 30 secs the ESP light beeps on the dash and says it is not working. Can i reset this or have i done something wrong?
Thanks
Any fault codes? Get it scanned
thinking there could be a sensor unplugged, did you unplug anything to replace the steering wheel controls? Perhaps you may have forgotten to plug something back in?

I have had it scanned and clear the codes but it i,,ediately comes back. Ill have to pull the wheel off again and check to see if i left something unplugged.
Its weird because when i start it up and in park i can switch ESP on and off but when i go to drive the fault comes up.

Checked over it again and i thought maybe one of the connections was a bit loose. No luck though. Afetr about 30 seconds it starts again.![]()
Not sure what is going on. I removed the steering wheel the first time and the srs light came on which i had reset but now the ESP light comes on and as soon as i reset it comes on again. It wont come on when the vehicle does its system check but as i said when you drive for bout 30sec it starts beeping and flashing
Any suggestions anyone?
Mine intermittently comes on. If I turn off the car and restart it seems to clear itself. I suspect a faulty sensor somewhere but as I can't replicate, quite hard to locate.
As you fault is repeatable, I would take it to a mechanic and demonstrate. That way they should be able to pin point quite quickly.
ESP Failure- VZ Calais
The thread above suggests battery issues or fuse problems. May be worth checking.
Checked all the fuses and all okay. It has to be something simple but what?
Battery. Have read a number of threads where a battery replacement has cured random sketchy faults. Worth a try - even if you just swap with a known good battery for a few days as a trial.
Tested the battery and came up as past needs charging. SO i charged it up fully and retested it and came up pass and charged. ESP failure still lights up on the dash. Dont understand it. There is only a yellow wire to the airbag which is hooked up, a green earth, 2 plugs which can only plug one way and thats about it. Volume controls work fine. Am i missing something? IS there any other wires in the steering wheel area which assist the ESP?
Yes, the clock spring affects ESP. Expensive trial and error though. I'd be having it checked properly if you still can't fault it by now.
I also believe the abs is disabled with an ESP faults so I would definitely be having it sorted.
Are the clock springs hard to replace? How much do they cost?
This is driving me crazy. I pulled it all apart again and aligned the clock spring again. Now the code comes up pretty much straight away before i do anything. System check is ok but esp failed light comes on immediately. How do i know if the clock spring is broken? Also how do i line it up 100%?
Thanks for your help guys.
Well if its not throwing up any fault codes, the computer may have reset itself even though its fixed and has the code logged, perhaps get it checked out..

Yeh not too sure. We had to do the Adventras about 4 months ago as it kept setting off an srs warning but it Had to be recalibrated by a genuine tech 2 ( we tried 3 versions of aftermarket service tools without luck)
That could have been due to being an adventra tho as I remember the other tools had the option to recalibrate but no luck with the adventra
Point of the story is we had to calibrate it, but I've read they can be easily replaced. As I said tho it's an expensive trial and error if ts not at fault but it's sounding like that may be causing the issue from
What I just read
Scanned it again and it comes up with a steering sensor error. This means that the steering needs calibrating as the system can not find centre. Try and get it recalibrated tommorrow.Fingers crossed.
Took it to autoelec who kept it till around 3pm to tell me he could not fix it. Rang Holden and had to speed up there and get the sensor recalibrated. Cost me a six pack of crownies. Phew.
Sounds like the same issue we had then !
