    Default VZ Question

Hi guys my mrs has a 2004 VZ exec wagon and the other day a message on the dash popped up when you first turn the key and also when you turn it off. There is a picture of an oil can as well as it saying "Service Engine Oil", i read in the book for it and only say if the warning said low oil. I have popped the hood and checked the oil level and is good so i asked the local Holden dealer and the responce was that most likely the problem is poor thinning oil.
We only have had the car for a few months and the three month warrenty has passed but im thinking that when the yard we got it from gave it its last service possibly they never changed the oil as the next service is at 142000 and the car has only done 137500 any ideas as i dont want to kill the engine in it, maybe ill just drop the oil in her and put freash oil but doing this will the warning still be there and do i have to do something to remove the warning cheers.

Run 5W-30 in it. Some people put thicker oil but the engine doesn't need it. I got my car from a dealer and they'd put 10W40 in it, I found over a couple of months the oil level dropped and there was oil on top of the sump. I'm going to run with the excess pressure was causing it to spill out. Changed to 5W-30 and haven't had a problem. I have the HSV Gauges in mine and at idle the oil pressure is down the lower end and if it's completely warmed up at around 2000 RPM it's around half / 3/4. Imagine if I had something thicker than that in there... The Alloytec is a new engine and designed for new oils. If you take yours to a dealership to get serviced ask what oil they're going to use first. Having said that it's really easy to change the oil in the Alloytec so I'd do it myself

    Hope this helps, good luck

Just clear it like a service reminder. Its a glitch, a software update cures it but cheaper ie free to just clear it.

This, happened to mine when it was a scheduled optional service. I chose to change the oil + filter anyway as I just bought the car a few months ago and want to make sure the oils good if they didnt change it last. Can't remember how to clear it but have a search its on here somewhere.
