Hey guys happy new year.
Yesterday I thought I would be smart and do a quick oil change before we go out. So I whack the jack under the car without too much thought and hoist it up then put the stands under. Then I realize my mistake.. I've put the jack under the engine and torn a hole thru the sump!! Guess that'll teach me for acting without thinking
So now I've got a great oil leak. Where do I get a new sump cover for my VZ? Are they hard to fit? How much do they cost?![]()
off to the wreckers you go and i think its about 13-20 10-14mm bolts i wouldnt have a clue how much they would cost shouldnt be over 200 dollars
Haha dude really? That shouldn't happen... sumps arean't that weak!
nathans VY Calais - 'Calais 2.0' | VT Equipe | VS Calais **SOLD!**
They really are. I've seen them crack and be made U/S by alot less.
Even torquing the sump plug too tight can fracture the sump meaning it has to come off. It's not a jacking point able to lift the entire car, atleast not without some kind of bracing to even out the load.

Obligatory pics. Have a laugh at my expense![]()
It was one of those things as soon as I did it I realized my mistake!! Oh well. I have a mate whos a mechanic he's gonna look at it for me. If he can't get one from a wrecker then he's got an account thru Bursons for trade pricing..
Let this be a lesson to you all!
Turn the car on, let it go bang, then your insurance will pay you lol. Dont believe me though haha
Damn, i'm not 100% sure with the Alloytec V6's but I know with the Ecotec V6's you have to either drop the K Frame or lift the engine to get the sump off.

'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
It is a pain to remove if you don't want oil leaks latter on, timing cover has to come off and the rocker covers need to come off to get the
timing cover off.
I would consider taking the engine out to do this job, I recently replace my engine in my WL statesman.
there has been a sump on ebay for sale recently, if you can't find it try "completed listings", it was about $190.
Where are you? might be able to make a deal with mine....
Cheers John
Make sure you get a new sump gasket when you refit it. Not 100% sure if you'll have to drop the k-frame.
Good luck. Sump shouldn't set you back too much. Surely a wrecker will have a motor that's done a head etc that they can part out.
I tend to just jack up one side to give me enough room to get under
Mate came over today.. He took a look and was wondering about them timing belts and shit too. Hes gonna do some research anyway n get back to me.
I suggested maybe welding to fix given its like a crack not a hole, I reckon it's unlikely but he knows someone who might be able to aluminum weld the crack up - would be a shitload easier job than ripping the freakin donk out.. Ah well we all live n learn
I'm in IT by trade.. My Mistake reminds me of the idiots I used to deal with all the time that stuffed up really simple things on their computers... Role reversal hahah!
I know the mechanics that removed my sump did it with the motor still in the car - I think all they did was undo the engine mounts and lift it up. I've assisted in the removal of an LS1 sump which required us to drop the K frame which is surprisingly easier than you'd expect.
