    Default engine rev capping at 4000 rpm HELP!!!

    can someone tell me why my car is capping at 4000 rpm whilst driving.
    its done it before when i had low oil but we put some new oil in and reset it back to factory standard and it worked fine after that.but this morning i was on my way to work and my fuel empty said empty and it started capping at 4 gran again wouldnt go over.My foot was still on the accelerator but it was slowing itself down. as soon as my fuel guage went to half the car started running fine again. are these cars built with a fail safe system or something?? its a VZ SV6 alloytech. it also did it when i pulled over to check what was wrong. but after the fuel guage went up it was reving like normal

    I've never had a prob with mine when fuel is low. What do you mean by the fuel gauge goes back up? Randomly or you refill it?

    randomly, the gauge is a bit dicky i spoke to a mechanic he said it could be fuel pressure, hasnt got enough to give me the power for the car to go over 4000rpm

    So you let both the oil...and the fuel get to low levels?

    Obviously you enjoy expensive repair bills.

    Ok, seriously, when you hit 4000, does it it feel like it progressively hits it limit, or does it go BAM!!! IM NOT GOING ANY FURTHA!!!!

    If i hold my foot flat in park it caps at 4g.. sounds like you have an issue with the car thinking its still in park. But i dont know jack......

    Sounds like an issue that can't be answered by a forum. Best to take it to your mech.

    it hits 4 grand and basicaly goes IM NOT GOING ANY FURTHER it does it in nuetral as i have a manual and whilest im driving in all 6 gears. it hits 4 grand and sits there reving wont go any further at all but after 5-10 kms of driving the problem disapears and the car will return to normal and rev right to its limit

    safety feature? maybe its not a good idea for you to have the ability to rev to 15thousand rpm without the oil heating up a bit???

    I'd say it was to test his problemto see maybe id it occurred in neutral too!!!:O :O Wow some real wankers on here! Use ya ####en brains!

    see this guy seems to have an idea of why i would rev it to 4g in neutral. look the problem comes and goes seems to be doing more and more as the days past. mostly does it when the car has been sitting in the sun for a few hours so its got me stuffed as to what the problem is

    mean some of you guys are harsh, the guys just asking a question. Ive heard of these models burning oil. have you been regularly checking stipple things like sump levels? I wil be the first to admit I don't know much about car motors but I also use to go over everything I DID know about my car at least every couple of weeks.

    What you should do is try and engage cruise control when its having a 4K limit and see if it'll let you. Sounds to me like a clutch switch playing up.
