It very possible unless mine is imaginary. There's a site sponsor called ASR, he does the aux in mod for these head units - he can even to a set of RCA outs so you can plug it into an amp, and it sounds just as good as an aftermarket head deck without looking tacky.

The stock head units dont have anywhere near as much control as an aftermarket one and still cheaper to put a new one in all together.

If all your wanting to do is have the ability to play off an external source then it's fine. Work's out cheaper as well plus you get to keep the factory look.

What do you want to control, the voyager space probe? There's more than enough adjustment for the normal person, plus steering controls still work and it doesn't cheapen the look of the interior.

Your opinion on whether or not it's pointless was not the question, some people like the stock look of the interior, some don't, there's no point getting worked up over it.

Not wanting to annoy anybody, but, have a look at this site. I think it's pretty cool. I don't have an ipod, and, don't really care about music in the car, but, if I did, I do like the thought of being able to control everything through the std headunit.

There is a video of it working here

Contacted him when I first got my car and at the time he wasn't going to develop any further VZ items.

I got a Parrot MCI9100. Bluetooth Hands Free Car Kits - Parrot USA

Gives full iPod control, USB input, SD card etc. Fantastic unit. Also full Bluetooth.

Downside, no steering wheel controls - care factor 0 as there is a remote fixed to the dash that controls the unit.

Richard, have you tried that Hard Wire? By the sounds you have, I'm thinking of doing it.... Is there anything major that can go wrong and ruin the whole stero? I assume not, im pretty handy with a soldering iron and all that, so it should be ok.

I have done it, worked fine for me, although do at your own risk. It does say to play a cd with a blank track on it, but I found that it will work with any cd, it overrides the cd music
