Default Question: Possible to convert Fog Lamps to DRL?

So I've got the VZ SV6 which has those lovely fog lamps I'm not allowed to use ever because I don't live in the hills and never get caught in fog. I've been reading on the legalities, and the DRLs are legal because they are 21W or something, whereas the brighter 55W fog lamps are illegal to drive unless it's actually foggy.

    Whatever.

Question is: is it possible to just change the globe in my fog lamps to a much dimmer globe which complies with the law?

(I am aware that I can buy LED strips, and I'm looking into this too, probably going to order some in the next 10 minutes - but I'm curious because I'd like to be able to use my fog lights legally as DRLs also.)

Just use your foggies man, youd have to have the worst luck to get busted with them on, i have 8000k hid foggies (blue) and drive with them on all day, cops drive past and nothing ever happens...

Why use fog lights when theres no fog, its retarded and the cops will eventually fine you. Putting HIDs in the foglights is even more retarded as they will be absolutely useless in fog.

i was thinking of just putting a blue LED in mine purely for show and no gain because ive been in fog at my joint once i think in 5 years.

ive been asking around about all types of exterior lights and cant get a straight answer, anyone here know the laws for WA??
i wanna run some exterior LED's behind the number plate on my VZ shining down onto the lower grille. but dont wanna get pinged for it.
    Cheers

Any colour not white or yellow front facing forget unless u don't care paying money to a copper to tell u they're illegal.

If u wanna put say a white led in there, check eBay to see if there is something to directly replace the type of globe u have, say h4 or whatever the size/type is on the vz fog loom

Ricey I'm not sure how Hids could be useless in fog as I was running full headlight Hids in a previous car and the beams were so bright they were cutting through the fog and I could see everything in front of me

first off the fog lights are down low for a reason. they shine along the top of the road. noone is gonna give a shit how bright they are cause they wont be shinning on other cars anyway they are supposed to be adjusted so they shine straight ahead at the level of the fog lights. its only illegal if your stupid enough to adjust them up to shine onto other cars and alot of new cars have HID fog lights standard and those led strips that come with the new VE HSVs and the Audi's are brighter than most normal fog lights anyway. so long story short you have nothing to worry about. the only light that has any restrictions on brightness is your everyday low beam headlight

Willo just do it anyway and put them on a switch so you can turn them off when driving in the street and turn them on whenever you want. thats what i did in my VZ

I cant see HIDS cutting through fog, more likely reflecting off it rendering them useless. Fog lights are a different light to normal and HID.

Just a heads up, a fog light is designed to illuminate the road markings from underneath the fog, as fog sits just off the ground. In no way are they designed to cut through the fog or illuminate anything else.

Unless you get something in the low kelvin range. Mine are 3000k and they're awesome.

My point is that installing HIDs into foglights results in a much broader and brighter beam which will do nothing but reflect straight back off the fog.

Brighter isnt better when youre talking foglights.

No worries - I'll double check to ensure that the bloke I bought it off hasn't adjusted the foggies up. I'm thinking of switching the globes to white just to match the white LEDs I've ordered.

    Thanks guys!
