Change your oil - Using castrol mine used to tick like a clock, now that I've changed to Nulon it seems to have stopped it.

I'm using Castrol Edge Sport 10W60, it ticks for about 5 seconds on start up and then disappears. It was worse when my old mechanic was using Oleon.

Oil pump may be on its way out so youre not getting pressure to the top of the engine so lifters etc will be noisy.

Id get an oil pressure test done.

In my old celica the oil levels got real low (yeh a real stupid thing to have happen) and it turned out that it messed up the bottom end bearings. Had to get them replaced....lucky i didn't do any more damage than that

vz 6L L76,s are bad for lifter tickin. Most of them do it at some point. Even mine on cold starts

I had a tick and a slight pinging (could hardly hear it until it was up into high rpm and under load) and no one could figure it out, so I went from a 5w30 to a 15w50 until the engine dropped to 2 bars and wouldn't change. So I changed the lifters and and still had the same issue, so I decided to do the oil pump and it turned out the timing chain tensioner had broken up and blocked the oil pickup. Must have been a year that I was trying to find the issue before it lost oil pressure.
