Gday guys, I've been wanting one of these bonnets for a long while but haven't managed to find anyone who does whole steel no fiberglass ones. I'm not fussed if the flutes are chopped and welded as I considered doing that myself. Any info on a possible seller or your own personal experience with the fibreglass ones would be much appreciated!
You drive a FORD? That's O.K we all make mistakes..
i am in the same position, but with my vt ss
G'day Ls, from my knowledge a Genuine Monaro Bonnet will fit staight onto a VT Sedan/Ute.
GENUINE STEEL GTO HSV MONARO VZ BONNET VT, VX, BRAND NEW IN BOX - VIC | eBay
You drive a FORD? That's O.K we all make mistakes..
But what's the quality like tho?
That's the question...
thats genuine, so im guessing as good as it gets, you dont pay over a grand for a monaro bonnet to really doubt build quality. unless you doubt holdens build quality in general, then i think we all have some doubt about it lol
Hahaha well played Richard haha, yes Ls1 i ment a Genuine** Vz Monaro bonnet straight from Holden so quality wise pretty much the same as what you got atm haha

I should of been clearer, what I meant was the quality of the fibreglassed bonnet.
HEYYYY were all here for the same thing , i had a fibreglassed one, found out its highly illegal sold it a year ago to some doosh for 700 :/ i paid 550......
stroking is fine but id rather be blown
Fair enough that they are illegal, but what was the quality like?
Any signs of cracks and warping?
my car is not exactly high powered so i never got the warping , and the bolt section for the hinge and bonnet catch seemed pretty good, now im in QLD i might get another one
id say quality was pretty darn good, sanded back right and painted properly , it came in a white gel coat which you prep and paint yourself
stroking is fine but id rather be blown
Unfortunately I live in the nanny stateso wont even attempt fibreglass haha

I have a full fibreglass Monaro bonnet from Savage Fibreglass in Sydney. The quality is awesome, its strong, light and looks great. I have experienced no issues at all. Of course its also illegal.
You can pick up steel bonnets with fibreglass nostrils, those are legal but cost more. The ones I have seen looked good.
Or blitsbodykits.com.au are the only people in oz making street legal fibreglass bonnets (they claim they are legal in every state in oz) - they make a Monaro bonnet, you could check them out.
Man I was THAT CLOSE to buying a fully fibreglass bonnet? How illegal are they? Would cops even notice them????
Its like anything else isnt it? Give them a reason, they will look closely. Dont, and they wont.
I'm very happy with mine, there are pix of it both naked and painted in my ride thread. The ebay ad for the steel bonnet listed earlier said fibreglass ones crack and warp. All I can say is mine hasnt, and i believe its just as strong as a steel bonnet.
The only difference is that it wont bend and make a dent if you hit it with a hammer, it will smash a hammer sized hole through the glass. Repairs are sooooo easy because of this... should you happen to plan on hitting it with a hammer. I stood on my fibreglass bonnet the other day to change the overhead lights in my carport, no problem.
I actually got my car passed RWC with a full glass bonnet.. the guy pointed out to me that it wasnt strictly legal, but passed it anyway, on the understanding that as far as he was concerned the bonnet was steel when he passed it. The reality I think is that he doesnt believe they should be rated as a defect anyway, though the law says it is supposed to be.
I've had cops tell me the bonnet is not legal, but let me go since I wasnt being a tool, and advised me that 'I really should get around to getting rid of it'. Again, they made it pretty clear that they had no problem as such with the bonnet, it was just technically illegal.
This was at a random roadworthy station in QLD too, not just some knob in a uniform looking to be a hero.. if one of them gets you then yes, he will notice the glass bonnet and yes he will defect you for it.
I have also spoken to the local authorised mod plate guy, and he is perfectly happy to issue a mod plate for it if I should ever need one, which I will get around to doing one of these days.
As I said though, blitsbodykits.com.au sell full fibreglass bonnets that they claim meet all ADRs and are fully legal in every state. As far as I know, they are the ONLY company in Australia thats bothered doing the ADR work. They come with certificates and stickers to show the cops too, I think one from there should be fine.

Stuff it I will go with full fiberglass. I dont give the cops a reason to pull me up and I have never actually been pulled up *touches wood*
How much would it set a person back for the spray shop to spray up one of these bonnets?
Its funny how all my mates said when I buy a commy (especially a red one) the cops will be all over me. 8 months later and they havent. I would like to think thats because of my good driving record.
This is a mod I have wanted to do to my VT. It is a v6 but with extractors the engine bay is miles too hot, this bonnet could be just what I need (they look sexy too tbh) to help with that problem. I wonder what makes their bonnets different to everyone else? Their prices are reasonable, so I will just have to contact them and find outWill post back if anyone from Blits responds.
There isnt any particular difference between mine and a blits bonnet. The only real difference is that they have bothered doing the hard yards to get ADR compliance. That little sticker is well worth having though, just for piece of mind.
I've never had a copper comment on any part of my VS, except for one random roadworthy station where the inspection guy said the bonnet was technically illegal and I should consider replacing it with one that had an ADR sticker.
