Default Blackening Tail lights and Spoilers

    Hey guys
finally grew the balls to start playing around with my car, ive debadged it and pulled the spoiler off and next i wanna blacken the tail lights
Is it illegal? or is it aloud to a certain point?
also with taking the spoiler off i only have the 2 rear brake lights, do i need 3? like every other car.

    Cheers
im sure ill have many other questions regarding my car.

tinting is illegal in nsw. and apparently if ur car came stock with a 3rd brake light, u need to still have a 3rd brake light.

Tinting tail lights is iilegal in all states as far as I know. That and its almost impossible to do without them looking cheap and nasty. Simply buy some SS tail lights, they are tinted from factory.

Yes you need a 3rd eyelevel brake light, I got one that sticks to the inside of the rear window and wired it into the existing connecter in the boot where the factory eye level brake light is in non spoilered cars.

Yeah no worries, ill see how i go with the lights. might get some SS ones. so the light has to go at the top of the window? should be easy to rig up and the only reason i wanted rim skins is because the rim sticks out further and there are alot of impatient drivers at round abouts, so just an insurance thing. not saying im a perfect driver but there is alot of people like that

Just get factory ones instead of trying to tint your stock lights.

    Its
    a) highly illegal to tint stock lights
    and
    b) looks like shit 99.9% of the time.

As for removing your spoiler your will need to get another break light in the rear window, just like its been said above just connect it to the already existing connectors and put it on the parscal shelf there is no need to hook it up the top of the window (that also involves more work hiding the wiring to keep it looking clean too :P)

Almost ran into the arse of someone with tinted tail lights last week - the indicators and brake lights were barely visible, VERY HANDY when they were turning off the highway.
To top it off they always look so out of place, big black things on the back of the car...

Problem with the LED ones is that of an LED fails you generally have to replace the whole light.

Everyone has SS tail lights because they look nice Theres other areas that you can personalise your car to make it unique.

Yeah true about the LED thing, they look nice but maintance is one thing, i recon i could fix it if one went. i guess its worth a try and i agree the SS tail lights look wicked, just to common for me i like really unique. also my neighbor down the road has an SV6 with SS tail lights and its my mates mum.

I have painted my tail lights with nite shade (from autobarn) and also used clear coat to give it the shine.
I'll get a photo up soon but i'm happy with how it turned out and even though i'd definitely prefer calais tail lights i can't afford it right now and if i was to put that sort of money towards the car i'd save a bit more and change the diff instead

Edit: I forgot to say that in all the times i've been pulled over and that was by RBT, HWP or even a random patrol car, not one has ever even mentioned the tail lights. Even when looking over the car for defects!
