Hey guys
so i just brought my beautiful vz sv6 today off a auction
2005 model
when i started her up there was this crackling noise? like something in side the engine bouncing around
now i drove it and it drives like new, just went i turn it on and its on park, its a really loud crackling noise
anyone tell me what it could be? can also hear it when driving
no check engine or anything comes when i start the car? says system is fine
thanks!
VZ V6, i'm guessing that the timing chain might be starting to stretch. I hope for your sake that thats not the case.
But you should take it to a mechanic to get it checked out, could be something simple.

ahh how much is timing chain?
Approx
I'm not sure exactly of the cost sorry. But I know someone else who had the same problem. He had to get the timing chain, tensioners, etc. Problem was that his timing chain stretched too much and jumped a tooth or two and it would run after that.
A few members of this forum have had to get their timing chains replaced on the Alloytecs, hopefully they will be able to give you an idea.

^ As above, pull the headlight knob towards you or "out"
I have a very similiar problem!
• In the mornings, when i start my car, it always roars then makes this loud cracklin sound. This stops after 3 seconds.
• But if ive been driving the car around then turn off the engine and turn it back on again it doesnt crackle.
• If i drive to work then park my car for the day which gives it 8hours to rest then start the car for the cruise home it crackles?
Seems to me whenever the engine is cooled down it crackles when starting up.
Also my car doesnt crackle when driving.
Whyyyyyy is this???
lack of lubrication around the timing chain, normal and nothing to worry about. mine has been doing it for 80,000km
thanks alot for the fog light help
well if its noot a major problem with that noise then i grabbed my self only cost 5300 for vz sv6 with the guards
il make a thread soon
Woah that puts my mind at ease! Thank you.
Btw is the timing chain easy to locate mate?
Also what would i use to lubricate the timing chain?
Cheers
Is there plenty of engine oil in it? Could be running low or more likely its the wrong grade. 10W-30 required I think.Hey guys

Life starts at 200km/h
i asked for a quote to get my timing chain changed it was over 3 grand the mechanic told me, because you need to by the rails and everything they run on because its all made of plastic. So if its stretched you need to replace everything along with it. my car has engine knocking in cylinders 2,3,4 and 5 unsure how to fix the problem not even a mechanic can tell me they all said they will need to pull it apart first before they can give me an idea on how to fix it. Anyone know if this is true or can it be fixed another way?
What I meant by lack of lubrication is that the oil drains back to the sump, so once all the oil drains back, the chain is not as lubricated as in normal driving, as the oil has not circulated through the engine fully on first startup. Only get worried if it starts being very rattly for majority of driving
haven mine checked monday, hopefully nothing bad
took it today cause i had some time
and the mechanic said it might be the cyclinders? is that possible? with some knocking noises
