Hi,

I'm interested in buying a WL statesman alloytec instead of WK mainly for the ESP, EBD, full leather trim, and the fact it's a higher output than the ecotec,
But I've heard a lot about alloytecs and timing chain issues.
How common and severe is it, and is it worth not looking at the WL and going for the WK instead?

Thanks

I wouldn't avoid them just because of timing chain fears.

I suppose if it did stretch or god forbid break, I could just replace all the chains with a high tensile type. It would be worth it, 190kW on my Ps in an international with cream leather, honestly the sexiest car Holden has made to date, that's excluding a WL grange, now that's a car!

Let's say it had timing chain issues, what sort of symptoms are there, and how long do I have after it begins until the engine kicks it?

Timing chain issues only affected 06 and 07 they revised the chain after that.
